Unable to use consumables in single player

I just started the game and am going to die before I even get through the metro tunnels because I can't seem to use any consumables. I have healing items in a quick slot, but when I press the hotkey it just prompts me to keep crafting more. I am hoping a bug fix is in the works soon, but are there any current work arounds? I am a noob who gets hurt a lot; I need to be able to heal!

Took me a while to find them, but hold down 1 or 2 and it'll open up quick select menu's for consumables and items.

Yep, definitely did that. Double-checked my key bindings, too. When I hold down 2 (which is what I set for consumables), it just brings up a prompt to craft more. Doesn't work if I just press 2 briefly, either. I am re-installing the game now to see if that helps.

I have the same problem. Whenever I try to use a consumable my character equips his main weapon instead. I have tried rebinding it. I have tried using my gamepad instead keyboard + mouse. Nope.

Hold H to use them. 1 or 2 cycles them.

This actually worked, thank you! So it seems the bug is that despite being able to change hotkeys in the settings, if you do so it breaks the function. I switched it back to H and it worked.

Yeah changing hot keys works but breaks any secondary hotkeys with the same key, its really poor.
