The night timer is stupid and should be entirely removed.
It's a bad mechanic, it does not make the game more fun in any way, it should just be ripped entirely out of the game.

*timers in games are pretty much always bad. Even in things like racing games and survival games etc. There are always alternatives that work better than a simple timer and are more satisfying to the player.

The infection timer is one of the most baffling design choices I've ever seen in a game. Why anyone would put a mechanic that discourages free exploration into their open world game is beyond me.

It's not challenging to manage. It doesn't help build tension. It's not fun. I'm actually not sure what its purpose is beyond narrative cohesion.

i cope by removing the timer entirely in my game. It would make the game better for everyone else if the devs would take it out entirely for everyone.

I like the infection timer. They explained the infection rate with lore too. You use the day to gather resources like the shrooms you can use in dark places to stave off the infection from killing you. You can use those shrooms to create inhalers too and upgrade the inhalers. As you gain more stamina in the game your timer also grows longer.

Like any good RPG, you start as weak as a lamb, but as you progress, you go from beta male to gigachad destroyer. Then once you finish the game with one run, you do it all again as the sigma male who knows many things and uses that experience to strike when the moment is right.

whoa man, I had no idea you speak for everyone. I dont mind the immunity timer at all and I find it hilarious that people are complaining about it. It's easy to manage, makes sense with the story, and with 20 hours in the game so far I have the timer up to 8 minutes which is almost more then enough time too explore and complete GRE buildings which have 4 inhibitors in them. The fact people are butt hurt over this mechanic is hilarious.

I tell ya, it ruins night time in the early game. Basically gotta sleep it off.

not butt-hurt. I just call things like i see them. Like I said, I remove it from my game entirely.

The addition of the auto-death timer at night or in dark places is just plain stupid. Read the comments in the threads about it and you'll see that most people seem to agree - it is objectively a bad mechanic.

Theres already a huge thread about babies who dont feel like or dont know how to learn. It is a very easy mechanic to overcome, even at night one. It makes sense and adds suspense, adds a very neat dynamic.

You can go see the baby trigger fest over here https://steamcommunity.com/app/534380/discussions/0/3186862118578437319/?tscn=1644105705

Dont know what you flat brains are talking about "capping my fun" or some slack jaw'd excuse. I run around with my partner at night all the time with no worries

I think the timer could be fun if you could bring UV flares or something instead of the whole mushroom thing.

Sorta like playing "Subnautica" and creating areas to get oxygen without having to resurface totally.

There are UV flares, and yes, you can use them to recharge your timer. There are also tons of uv stations and lamps everywhere on the surface and underground. There is literally no need to feel pressured at all.

do any of you even play the game?

Completely disagree, it changes the infection from a plot point to a resource management gameplay mechanic. Maybe go play a different game.

It is butt hurt and no, most people dont agree. You are all the whiny baby minority that doesnt know how to play games. Go back to idle games or something more your speed because you obviously didnt even launch the game

its a super easy mechanic if you've ever laid your hands on a mouse or keyboard. the trigger fest here entertaining but just shows how dumb people are. sheds some light on people who think anyone who is better than them is a hacker.

exactly. TONS of ways to mitigate it. Run around at night all the time with no worry, its great. You would have to be trying to get the timer to go to zero
