I kinda find fighting zombies really annoying
I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ LOVED THE FIRST GAME.

SOMETHING IS QUITE WRONG HERE.

I remember smacking around zombies in dying light 1 as stress relief, but now even basic ones are just a chore to fight (this is even with more than half the skill tree unlocked). The virals and not to mention the other specialised types just make not want to fight at all...

But the skills ain't the problem isn't it? Because most if not some of them only apply to humans (parry specifically; which is hard to pull off for me already).
This isn't even diving into the ragdoll physics and the zombies reactions to your hits, but apparently Techland has been notified of this issue and I'm hoping for fixes soon.

Sorry just had to vent. I really hope I'm not the only one feeling this way; I'm enjoying mostly everything else - but the combat is really that spoonful of mud in an otherwise great soup

Yeah sort of agree tbh I’m playing on hard and the fights feel really spongey(is that a word) and just takes a long time to kill anything even with decent gear. Definitely needs some tweaking but I think it’s due to the more rpg system they put in.

since when RPG equals "damage sponge"? Real old RPG is total opposite.

I kinda guessed this would happen when they took so many weapons out, fighting zombies with melee is fun... for a few hours but fighting them the whole game the same becomes tiresome..

They're weirdly spongey yet they aren't...I think with a few minor tweaks to be honest, things could go back to being fun - its just a matter of how long we have to wait for such changes

I wouldn't say weapons are the problem - its more of a lack of feedback from said weapons. And that makes em feel less unique.
But yea eventually u get really tired of all the jank sooner or later

It's probably the lack of ragdoll, makes combat feel way less enjoyable than it was in DL1.
techland should try to fix this, make the zombies animations from being hit more dramatic, buff the knockback from impacts.

Yea, don't you notice that zombies 90% (if not all of the time) always recoil backwards from a hit the same way?
And when you kill them they do that "power rangers tumble" backwards?

I originally played 5 hours of solo on Hard difficulty for a bit to get a feel before I entered coop. As context, I aspired to and thoroughly enjoyed beating Metro Exodus on Ranger Hardcore mode. This game did not add value putting the game on Hard- at least not early game. I can theorize that down the road as you craft a masterkit that plays off of itself, you can definitely start shredding hordes. Until then, I'd recommend Normal difficultly and accept that you're doing this not because you're bad- but purely because you want to enjoy the game as optimally as possible. I'd also recommend turning off zombie health bars, as I find them unnecessary considering this is a Dying Light game. I did keep Human healthbars enabled however. Let me know what you think about this! Have fun gamers. :tobdog:

I find every weapons bad in the game so far. Except big 2handers. Yes they're slow but on hard difficulty, it takes 3-4 hits to kill a group of zombies together.

But yeah, they're sponges.

Likely to help make up for the fact there's less horde's.

Otherwise, DL1 was the same until like end game. Early game it took most a weapon's durability to kill a single zombie. Mid game was easier, late game you could kill everything with a single hit.

Otherwise, aim for the head. Use environmental hazards, Molotovs are your best friend.

Parry applies to zed as well i discovered during a chase, but they could have added more to the fights. It's not terrible but I miss being able to throw weapons.

people obviously forgot how dl1 felt like in the first hours.. it took agea to kill zombies..

combat in dl1 is getting better with progression and high lvl weapons.. it was the same in dl1

I also noticed the ragdoll physics are just not near as good as the previous game.

I strongly remember kicking zombies into spikes and off buildings and it was great, but now zombies don't interact with the spikes that are littered throughout the map, they touch them and just fall over and die as opposed to being impaled on them.

Watching zombies fall off buildings is weird too, they kind of freeze up and then start the ragdoll physics just before landing.

i hope that Techland is aware of this and is going to fix this

Yeah, feels like you're just standing still when you swing a weapon whereas in DL1 the camera followed the swings more and felt like they had more impact.
