Flashlight Activate Shadow Casting
It works, even with dx 11/12 no raytracing. But you have to change something. You have to set the contact shadow quality to very high in the advanced graphics settings. By default, they are only set to high at most, and then they are deactivated.

So:
Short menu:
low, medium, high = no flashlight shadows cast

Manual key F advanced settings:
Contact shadow quality on very high = flashlight shadow casting yes

Just checked again ingame. Is working.

doesn't work for me

What graphics card and driver are you using? I'm using a RTX 2080 Ti with driver version 511.65 and no matter what, the flashlight doesn't cast a shadow for me. What a shame. The flashlight should really be casting shadows. It kinda kills the athmosphere.

DX12, contact shadows set to very high. No flashlight shadow casting. Did anybody else got this working?

looks like this guy is a troll. had mine set to very high since day 1 and no flashlight shadows

It's either a troll or he confuses shadows with only dimly lit surfaces because of the flashlight shining in a steep angle. I hope that there will be a mod soon that fixes the shadow casting.
Otherwise the lighting is really nice. I don't get how the devlopers decided to not make the flashlight cast shadows. Doesn't make sense (except it costs too much performance which I doubt though).

They go the extra mile to add an option for RT flashlight light bounces, I have a feeling it had buggy shadows that they didn't have time to fix cause the game can definitely handle lots of them. Hopefully can be patched in soon

That sounds good. But Is there an official source for this information?

Yes, the options menu lol. It's the "raytraced flashlights" checkbox in advanced settings

That is there since day 1 and the flashlight is already using raytraced global illumination (RTGI). It just doesn't cast shadows. So technically the flashlight works as intended. Artistically/visually though it doesn't look good in many people's opinion (mine included) and should be changed to casting shadows. I'm no expert on programming this but I can imagine that casting shadows could cause a big performance loss when using RTGI at the same time.

Oh I thought you were asking about my RT flashlight claim specifically. Yeah I was just guessing on them not being able to implement it cause that's all I can think of why you'd have a game with all this fancy raytraced lighting and then have a flashlight that doesn't cast shadows. I've noticed a few ghosting effects with DLSS and raytraced GI through moving objects behind finer details like fence posts, I can imagine rapidly moving RT shadows and DLSS don't play well together, but I hope there's some kinda balance rather than outrihgt disabling them.

I read a post[forums.nexusmods.com] a modder on the DL2 nexus made where they found some lines in the data files about shadow casting flashlights, which are already marked as enabled. Clearly they don't work though, maybe a left-over from DL1, or hopefully a work in progress option

Even despite the wrong offset this looks more like it should have from the beginning. Looking forward to the release.

Can you tell whether this should work in Co-op, too?

Any fix how to enable shadow cast??
