I saw that timer while watching a review... I was thinking the same thing. I mean unless it's part of the plot like the protagonist can't be exposed to darkness for too long or w/e the ♥♥♥♥? And it must be because apparently you die right on the spot if the timer reaches 0. But even if it is plot related it still looks ♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid / tedious. There's probably a skill in game you can unlock that increases the timer and i'm sure someone will make a mod to disable it or w/e eventually. As for combat I heard the zombie physics / animations (such as rag doll and etc) were pretty sloppy too. I keep seeing posts that praise it as a worthy sequel tho so idk maybe it just needs some ironing out. I remember DL1 had like NO weapon variety when it first launched there was like cricket bats and khopesh's and a a few other things... it was pretty lame. I'll be keeping an eye on this game for a little bit at least to see what's what.

You're infected and need boosters and UV light to keep from turning.

Game is a total asset flip of the superior first game, it has some new things but the protagonist is the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing after people have asked for female characters too, frat boy company alert.

it's actually super easy to keep that timer up and prevent it from reaching zero. The more GRE inhibitors you use and health/stamina upgrades you get, the more time you can spend in the dark. That mixed with leveling up your immunity boosters to give you more immunity on use makes it much easier than anyone who hasnt actually used the mechanic or understands it thinks it is.

it fits the narrative , which is a cool change imo ..

You can't remove the timer but you can extend it with UV shrooms and other things you can craft. Sometimes there will be small light sources inside dark areas that reset the timer. I agree, it can be frustrating.

As for this being a worthy sequel. I think the game world is a lot better than DL1. I like the improved weapon upgrade system and different clothing but overall the game feels a bit dated. There are many games that have been released in the past 3 years that are ahead of this in storytelling, models and facial animations. You can tell this has been in development hell for 7 years and the story in this is worse than DL1 so far.

I loved this game for playing at night, spending most of my time at night. Now you need to run from zone to zone in time so that it doesn't end. We'll have to download cheats to play the way we want :/ . HOWEVER, this is good for finding items in a dark house for example, I like this innovation in this regard.

What gets me about Aiden is he is a carbon copy of Crane, he even sounds like him. I had to check on IMDb that it was a different actor.

It's a challenge, but yes it is quite annoying. If you have a plentiful amount of UV shrooms, then you can extend the night timer slightly. Remember that like someone said, you're infected.

you find so many immunity boosters that this mechanic really isn't hard to navigate...

This is a really ignorant and stupid comment. The first game was good but was also very "arcade-like" with the grapple hooking pulling you up instantly for example, but the now second installment has more refined parkour, better combat and a better RPG progression system. You feel yourself growing stronger not just from the inhibitors but from the perks you pick up as well. In the first game, I felt pretty strong from the start and just got stronger and stronger. There were also TONS of exploits and dupes in the first game.

I don't understand why people dislike the timer. You're infected and the game literally makes it a very serious issue at the start within the first couple of cutscenes. I rarely ever have any trouble with the timer since I have tons of the nightrunner safezones unlocked, so I can easily just run through and have my timer back up. I think it's good that you're not a ultra ass kicking badass like you are in the first game. You start off weak and progress into being an ultra ass kicking badass. It's called PROGRESSION

unless youre a speedrunner everyone hates going against timers. that and escort quests.

The only issue with night time is that it ends too soon. Finding UV-shroomz or immunity boosters is easy, I don't even have to go look for them. Night time >>>> Day time.

Or they could have just not add that mechanic in the first place? It's just trash and doesn't bring anything worthwhile to the game, it wasn't needed and is just annoying af.
First game didn't have that and everybody was fine.
