Female character customization?
Just wondering if we've heard anything about players being able to play as a female character. My wife and I play a lot of co-op games together, and last time we both had to be the same guy. Really hoping a bit more customization this time around -- especially since the theme of the game is making choices.

the game has cutscenes and the main character talks, it would take a new voice actor and tons of re animating just to add a female skin

The effort required is minimal compared to virtually any other feature of the game, and Mass Effect (as well as numerous other games, like The Division) demonstrated just how seamless the difference can be. There is no excuse, nor justification, for not having a female voice actor say the same lines, and little to no reanimation necessary. Let's not be disingenuous, here.

The company is more than capable of doing it, and the investment is minimal. If they aren't, the only reason is because they don't think it will make enough difference to their bottom line. And that's their prerogative, but we don't need to congratulate them for it. Consumers need to stop slobbering all over the businesses that provide their products, and start expecting more.

That said, question answered, I guess. :steamfacepalm:

What is this latest trend where you need to feel represented in a video game? Or that the character you play as needs to have the same genitalia/skin color as you to feel immersed? You never saw this ♥♥♥♥ 10 years ago. A dev could make a game and do whatever they want and no one complained. It's baffling how something so trife as the appearance of your character and what's inbetween their crotch- something you will never see- can turn off people from enjoying a game. Ridiculous. I could care less what the person I play as looks like or what gender they are, I will get immersed if the game is fun and good.

Nope, that's just plain wrong. An "ideal" female body is skinnier than the "ideal" male body. Therefore you would have to at least adjust every single piece of clothing the character could wear to fit for both body types. And let's not forget the breasts, the portion you crave the most, seeming that you are begging to play as a woman. Every piece of clothing that goes on the torso will have to be remodeled to accommodate for that, maybe even animations if arms can clip through it. Then, most of all, pay millions for a voice actor to record a thousand more lines. There were a ♥♥♥♥ ton of voicelines for Crane in the first game, now imagine DL2.

Techland's choice on what they want to do, not yours. And I'm not stopping you from thinking this, I'm just saying it's ridiculous. And I guarantee I won't see you complaining if some game comes out and the playable character's female only.

Stunning that some of you made it this far -- and through so much of your own text -- without reading the original post. Don't choke on your cheetos, my dudes. Mouth-breathing is dangerous.

Options for my partner, and the other half of the human race? "Woke," indeed. Christ... I guess they really are playing to their audience.

Read. the. OP.

Jesus.

Incidentally, women are half the population whether they are part of the sales demographic or not. And maybe a few potential sales would like better character customization? Maybe there's a bit of a chicken/egg thing going on with women being interested in playing?

And maybe, just maybe, the dozens of posters on similar threads on this board decrying having to choose "a slit" or someone "non-immersive" for them (irony of ironies) might have something to do with it?

But yes, I get that they know they can float on sales to people like you and keep costs down. That doesn't mean it isn't stupid, just that it works.

I can't even imagine having the kind of life where spraining your fingers arguing against a second character option is important enough to look like an idiot, but here we are.

Lmao what are you even talking about? I stated my own opinions on the matter and then corrected something you said that was so blatantly wrong. I feel like you're the mouthbreather here, bud.

Christ, I feel sorry for any of the women who have the misfortune of interacting with dudes like you in real life. I guess the upside of this pandemic is that you're mostly confined to your basements- thank god for social distancing. I'd say more, but the softcore furry porn profile picture gets the point across better than I ever could. I wish you luck (and social skills. )
Qdude Mar 30, 2020 @ 10:51pm
The profile picture is a joke, and I keep it up to annoy people like you cause it's funny af. Also, I don't understand why you label me as an incel or some ♥♥♥♥ when all I said was that I want devs to do whatever they want and not pander to these sad people who need a character that looks like them to enjoy any form of entertainment. How does that say, "I hate women and I use reddit"? And I love how you attack me as a person rather than my points. Christ, I feel sorry for any of your friends who have the misfortune of interacting with your toxic ass in real life.

unfortunately all posts like this descend into ether your typical gamer guy going we don't need a female character and others going we would like the option.

I hated the first games male only roll because i generally don't enjoy playing as a man.

i'm not mentioning my gender for obvious reasons but an option to just change a skin like in games such as shadow of mordors options really helps and is honestly the bare minimum needed to help these people not feel alienated by games they enjoy.

I imagine that a'lot of these men who don't want to loose there male protagonist have varied reasons but i suspect one may be they don't want to loose there male role model which is a bit unfair considering the other gender never gets roll models for this kind of stuff.

Additionally anyone who complains about immersion should remember that thoughout history the few women who did physical activity outperform men. take the first women's 100 meters where the women competing all finished the race despite the false reporting of the press and in the process beat the current 100 meters world record. (men's world record)

Maybe you need to hit the gym more or join the armed forces. Because women lag behind men physically in the vast majority of cases. And the rate of injuries for them in military recruiting process is three times higher then men...

If that's the only flaw in what i said then you clearly need to revise your argument and even if that were true its worth taking into account that this is a fictional scenario (zombies).

I will concede my argument about female fitness if you could provide and unbiased source of evidence.

I don't enjoy raising this point but in the current crisis the death rate for women is almost half the male death rate, and therefor in a similar pandemic such as zombies a woman would more then probably find it less of a challenge to survive.

Overall based on your previous responses to other comments i get the impression you want "realism" in your protagonists of fictional story's to which i must ask why? Please correct me if i have gained the wrong impression.

Arguing with Sparhawk and his ilk is pointless; if you need any proof of that, just check his comment history. Dude loves to get into arguments, but consistently makes arguments that oppose his previous positions, depending on his mood.

He's also scared to death of anything without a penis.

The poor slob didn't even check to see that I was asking a simple question about a low-effort addition to a game made about choices for the sake of play co-op with my wife, because he was so alarmed at the thought that anyone would dare imagine a woman playable character in a zombie apocalypse featuring transforming monsters, weapons you can modify in ludicrous ways, and parkour that defies most laws of physics.

Don't let him convince you he cares about realism. He doesn't. His own words make it very clear that what he cares about is some bizarro-world narrative where the mere presence of women somehow hurts his enjoyment of the game -- or is, despite hard evidence to the contrary, too difficult for the developers of a multi-million dollar franchise.
