Is Kyle Crane Still Alive or Dead?
Now I'm touching on this topic since The Following's Ending was a little bit confusing, now there were two options, either fight Mother or agree to her intentions, one of them was to fight her and get the cure, the last cut scene we saw Crane having lots of hallucinations and possibly when he got out turned, but doesn't that mean he is dead? or so gone? the other option was to initiate a nuclear warhead, that of course killed Kyle Crane, but that didn't stop the plague from spreading, and Dying Light 2 mentions "The Last Human Settlement" so it didn't kill off all of the Harran Virus? the nuclear explosion?

2015 is when Kyle Crane was sent to investigate the Harran Virus, 2016 is when Crane went to The Following, and this takes place 15 years later and now we're introduced to Aiden, has Kyle Crane's Journey End? Or still live on?

I'm certain the game will have references to the previous game, the real question here is, where is Brecken and did he survive? Also where is the cure that the main game was focused in? Crane won in the end and there has to be some sort of connection with this moment within DL2, there might be someone in the game that has knowledge about this cure and how to develop it.

Anyways the tower should be lost at the end of the game, but there is no signs of Brecken being dead, plus he was the original cover for DL1 with the "run boy run" trailer, i am certain everyone that saw the trailer thought you would play as him untill you met him at the tower. I do think that Brecken could very well become one of the main characters in this game helping you out. And at some point Brecken will touch the subject about Kyle Crane and his unknown fate.

Kyle Crane can make an appearence in this game, he is a special kind of zombie, similiar to the mother perhaps. It is also easy to assume that the virus spreading out of harran is linked with Kyle Crane escaping via the sewers. He was out of the quarantine zone at the end of the following, so it should be obvious that the virus spreads from there. From all the characters from DL1, the only ones that might show up again are these two, in terms of lore, they are the only two that could make any sort of sense to return. I just don't know how Kyle Crane can be introduced into this game, unless he is some rampant super zombie that is "destroying" humanity and you get to hunt him down at some point, that would be anticlimatic.

1. I hope it does reference the previous game quite a bit, otherwise it'll feel like a spinoff or not really a sequel.
2. No no no, the real question is where is my boy Gazi. And Fatig(?) and Tolga(?), the inventors that disappeared by train.
3. Exactly! I loved The Following, but it completely disregarded what happened at the end of the first game. Like, they'd practically developed the cure at the end of it. Then all of a sudden, in The Following, they kinda just forgot about it and all sortsa random ♥♥♥♥ happened.

I hope characters do return to DL2. It is quite important to match up the first game to its sequel predecessor.

Late to this one. But it's obvious that Kyle change is name Aiden to avoid the zombie bounty hunters that were tailing him... so there's your answer.

That makes no sense. Aiden is younger than Kyle and is played in the future. This alone makes your claim have 0% chance of being valid.

If you said something like "Aiden could be related to kyle crane somehow", then it would be more believable. Both characters have the same voice actor if i am not mistaking, when i first saw the gameplay trailer and Aiden started talking, i instantly noticed the voice being the same as Kyle.

At this point, i do think there will be nothing connecting the first game to the second one. The only thing that could connect both games is the cure and how it could potentially have been lost. Other than this, there could be a tiny chance of seeing 1 or 2 survivors from the first game, but i do have a feeling they will not do any of this for DL2. The game looks more to a survival-esque game based on human rivalry than actually fighting the infected. The infected are probably going to have the "extra role", they will be the third wild party in the game that could potentially ruin your mission. While in the first game, the raiders were the extras.

I think he was joking. Well, I really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ hope he was joking.

another latecomer to this.. a really latecomer. i believe Kyle Crane is dead. The ending of DL The Following is canon, where Kyle turns into a volatile. Then he infects the whole world and that will become the backstory of DL2 i guess.
ShockedHearts 2 JUN 2021 a las 12:40 a. m.
The cure isnt real. its what turned the mother into a monster in the first place.

Crane is dead one way or another. eaither as the night stalker who we play as in the PVP mode who caused the virus to spread after the following OR by big time nuke destroying him and everyone else.

I can see Brecken returning though it'd be REALLY cool if he sees similarities in Aiden compared to Crane since they are both parkour naturals and passionate to fight for their causes.

cant wait to see what happens

He became a sentient volatile like his predecessor, he was already shown to have made it out of the quarantine zone and started to attack when night fell. For all we know he is the reason the infection spread around the world and everything went to hell.

During the stream one of the devs explained how things went down.

They managed to contain the virus in harran. This implies that infected kyle crane was either captured, killed or simply left behind.

In the stream, the dev speaks about harran being contained, but scientists all over the world were working on new strands of the virus, and one of these new mutations of the virus escaped a lab in geneva, which led to the current events of DL2, 98% of the population was turned and everyone became infected from the new strand.

I still find it hard to believe that everyone is infected, because there would be no humanity left if that was the case, everyone would be at each others throats constantly to get medicine to survive the infection. Instead, i do think the people inside the last city are mostly not infected. For it to make any sense imo. The 2% that is still alive is basically scattered settlements outside the city and including the city.

I hope they let us explore outside of the city with the DLC. One thing i liked with the first game was exploring different areas that were affected by the virus. Having an expansion focused in the geneva lab for example, would be pretty nice. Revisiting Harran would also feel great. Plot could easily demand the player to revisit the original infection. So Harran could contain information that would help counter the new strand of the virus. The old virus would let people keep some of their thoughts during specific circumstances. In other words, a weaker strand of the virus. Could be possible that both strands negate each other and slow the infection process in the long run. In the real world, this is what happens most of the time. Manipulate a virus to use it as a counter to the original virus, so they end up destroying each other in the process.
