Gave up on the game ... too bad
So, it started out fun. I liked the graphics, music and i don't mind the rigid and hardcore gameplay as long as there are enough checkpoints.

Then came the first platform phases, in the stage with the windmills. This really pissed me off when you have to jump between moving blocks. I just couldn't mentally compute where i'd land when jumping. Ended up reaching the end by pure chance.

Then came chapter 4 where you have to jump on turtles while avoiding those pointy thingies. You really have to be precise. Tried it a few times and could barely get past the first. So i gave up, it just was not worth getting headaches about it.

I just don't think that a game with such rigid jumps should have challenging platform phases. It's fine for fighting ennemies, you really have to time it right to hit them without jumping them, but those phases where you instant--die on any minor error is just a big nope for me.

Too bad, really liked it so far.

Welcome to old school platforming, the game was made to be in the same vein of ghouls and ghosts on NES or arcade, you think this is hard? you ain't seen nothing yet, compared to ghouls and ghosts this game is a breeze, the only problem Ive had are with the climbing segment with the faces shooting at you, its all about timing and memorization.

Pretty much what Master Blaster said. When people make these kinds of games they basically say "Hey you know all those bad design decisions devs made on NES?" "You mean the ones that aren't fun?" "Yeah! Lets do all of those."

I disagree,
The great thing about today's independant game making is that they can take the best of what we loved in old games and ditch what really really sucked.

Nah, you are a casul. This game is not so hard. There are many real hardcore games in steam like "They bleed pixels", with really insane level designs. Cursed Castilla is easy to complete. The real challenge is to unlock some achievments.

Go play with barbies, or something.

of course it's way too hard (for me) and it is made just for a few players, but this is not the fault of the game, we have made the mistake because we bought it, without looking exactly what this game is (I bought it by mistake on 3DS), especially with jump and run games you have to look and read a lot before buying, there is no other way.. the most important information of a game, if it is easy, middle or hard will often not to be shown on the first or second sight, because easy, middle or hard is different for each player, so it takes time to figure that out..

I'm not that great of a gamer but I managed to get to Level 5 so far on my first session playing (using about 5 continues). Back when I was a kid I was able to finish Super Ghouls & Ghosts (both quests as you need to) on the SNES. I was about 13 then, I'm 41 now and I amazed even myself how well the gameplay all comes back to you. The trick is understanding the physics of the jumping so that you can quickly jump away/toward and fire the opposite direction to avoid enemies. This game is fantastic. It's exactly what I was hoping for and about just the right difficulty level for me.

With infinite continues the overall difficulty is medium. The real problem is to complete the game with good ending. You can't use more than 3 continues and you need to find out 5 secret Moura tears for happy end.

That's what she said.

This game is actually really good. I bought it both on my 3DS and Switch. It's THE best "homebrew" Ghosts and Goblins arcade style game out there.
But it's hard and requires a ton of practise. I think it would be nice to have the windows version as well so might grab it. It's been about a year since I last played it through and both times was on handhelds. Would be nice on the 17" laptop screen

No issues here. Platforming is completely fine. You even have a tiny bit of in air control.

It's very hard but believe it or not, it isn't as hard as the arcade games that inspired it.
Play those for a few hours if you have the Capcom Collections, and then go back to Castilla hehe. You'll find it a bit more manageable suddenly!
