so how much will this masterpiece set me back?

So I started Survival Mode without reaching the part of the story where The Man With The Hat explains to me how the "Shield" power works, but i thought I could do on my own. But not. When I used the "Shield" spell, I created a yellow orb around me. My guess was that was, you know, a shield. But from that point on, I could not use any other spell, but enemies could hit me. So I died helplessy. What am I missing here?...

Any plans for a Mac version of the game?
