But yeah whatever works best if you want to play this for yourself and see these references and a brand new storyline go ahead otherwise this game isn't related to the first game.
Long story short:
Dontnod had a vision of LIS games as: each game a new set of characters and a new superpower, in a different location, but within the same "universe".
The games are connected by the same "universe" and small references to other games.
For example:
Childs' mother in Captain Spirit was a student of Blackwell's and the teacher's model. Childs' hometown is where the main characters of LIS2 will visit their family. Arcadia is shown in LIS2, as well as a phone call with people you know from Arcadia, etc. Some characters reappear, but it is not a direct sequel.
If you don't mind spoilers, this is a good place to start:

I didn't know that one detail! Either that or I didn't remember lol.
Sometimes I do wonder if their years on their games get confusing sometimes tho
Personally any newer game they make is underrated! (Unfortunately people don't recognize this game well enough..)
Dontnod wanted to capitalize off the Life is Strange brand name by purposefully titling this game as "2"... when in reality it's a spinoff that merely takes place in the same "universe".
If you want the real sequel, well it was just announced earlier today:

Wrong. Dontnod had a "vision", but the players didn't share it.
And now, they are releasing "just another cash grab".
By Square Enix and Deck Nine, not Dontnod.
Some people can't let go easily.
1. Never implied LiS 2 had zero links with the first game. And I wasn't trying to de-legitimize LiS 2.
2. I last played LiS 2 back in 2020 - with 34.9 hours on my Steam profile. Thought it was alright. At least it wasn't terrible like Twin Mirror.
If you ask me, outside of the stuff in your initial post on this thread, Dontnod's vision seemed rather nebulous. Especially when compared to something such as the various phases in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Also, if Double Exposure turns out to be a dumpster fire, I'll definitely call it out as a cash grab. Right now, I'll reserve judgement until the game releases.
