Is the EP 1 release a flop?
Observing the game for a while now and boy, under a thousand people playing right now for a game that just released a few days ago, call that underwhelming. Do people really not care for a standalone game without Max and Chloe or are there other reasons why this didn't take off because I expected it to since the first game was such a huge hit.

Not much replay value and its short so i quess people just don't play it after playthrough.
It would be interesting to see sales numbers.

There is actually even more replay value than ever before in my opinion now that there is no more rewind.

Also i had the feeling that Episode 1 of Life is Strange 2 had plenty of things to do and look at, at least more than in the first game.
Score wise, this episode is rating a bit above the first season. Player-wise, it's hard to say because there is only one episode out and a lot of people won't replay it before the rest are released. So I would say it's not a kind of game where you can look at a playerbase, there is not a lot of replayability and only one episode is out for now. We have to wait for sales numbers to really tell the success.

The critics are gonna love this game - just fall over themselves because of its creativeness and story line. Can't really look at the scores because right now there is a backlash against the people noting that there is serious politics in the game - though I've had people tell me they're going to buy it simply because it presents a left's view that needs to be out there to get people woke.

Over all I think this game at the end will be critically less than the 1st 2 games both in numbers and in scores - right now we just have a lot of people jumping up to defend the game for one reason or another.
It's not the amount of players that decide if it is a flop or not. It is the number of sales.
Reviews play a role too but sales are first and foremost

Rich white kids, making a game for rich white kids about facing white racism everywhere. Come on leftys plz. that's annoying af
I think you will find that a great many customers are waiting for the entire release before purchasing, as the episodic release trend has gotten on a lot of people's nerves (*raises hand*). If there is a Life Is Strange 3, I hope they will release it as a complete game, rather than in pieces. For me, it's becoming like getting to have apple pie with vanilla ice cream, but only being given a couple bites once a month.

Where is your source for that first opinion? Bc i followed both games / threads and i assure you no one was saying that in the threads.

And - ew, ice cream on pie? Ew. Oh noes - was that a ad hominem attack? Oh please mods don't ban me!
tbh i am disappointed with lis 2. i will probably buy it later, but the only voice I have is not buying the game immediately to show that i am unhappy. (and it‘s not because max and chloe are not in it)
I can just say that it wasn't a flop for me. It took me almost 4 1/2 hours to finish and I didn't even found everything. But if you are unsure I recomment to read some reviews or watch the first minutes on You Tube

There are plenty resons why it isn't that much a hit now in comparison to S 1.

One is, that there is just the first episode out. Some wait till the whole game is playable because they want to witness a whole story from the start.

Some are very attached to Max and Chloe and can't let them go. They don't accept that thier story is told. Some have a problem to accept a boy in the position as a PC.

The other reason is that this game is dealing with new setting, cast and themes as a story about Brotherhood, Roadtrip and racism. Some fans doesn't seem to like it.

I suggest to make wour own opinion on that.

Sorry, should have mentioned that I follow many, many more sources than just this one. For people in my circle of dudes/dudettes, they're all waiting for all the episodes to come out. Most of them are playing on the PS4, as well, rather than PC. So, not a source from Steam/this board in particular, just elsewhere.

And I don't put ice cream ON the pie (mushy and cold? blech), but rather beside it or in a bowl. I've burned my tongue and mouth on a just-out-of-the-oven slice before, so y'know ... precautionary measures.

I prefer ad homonym attacks myself, such as dough uh dear eh fee mail dear. I'll show myself out *clomp* *clomp* *clomp*
Some of you guys argue that people hold off before theres at least a few more Episodes out. But come on, how are the odds that 90% of people have exactly that mindset? LiS1 was a HUGE hit for its genre, it has over 117k (!) reviews on steam, mostly very positive. The current playerbase of barely half a thousand concurrent players does not represent a successful launch at all.
I played the first episode for 4 hours and enjoyed it as well but now I am just waiting for the next episode to continue playing. I'll replay the game when I finished it and I could imagine, that a lot of people handle it like this and are just waiting.
It's not a flop. One week after release:

Before the Storm Ep1: 1,419 players
Life is Strange 2 Ep1: 1,019 players
It will take an average of 3 - 3.5h to finsiht LiS2 Ep1 if you look at everything and aren't running all the time. Say everyone who owns the game since release day played it twice to see the effect of different choices. Add this up and about everyone who was initally interested in LiS2 is through the story by now and waiting on LiS2 Ep2. In other words - no wonder player numbers are falling.
