They Did Chris Dirty....
This is just my thoughts, I keep thinking about how it's kinda wrong for them to just shove Chris to the sideline like every other character we've met so far.
I know there's two episodes left but I can't help but wonder what was his actual purpose with that brief appearance? Why dedicate your time to a whole different side project on him if it's essentially pointless now? The fact that we can't even have any kind of info about how he's doing in Episode 3, especially if he got hurt in our playthrough, just feels like a slap in the face tbh. I personally would've preferred Chris to have originally been the focus of LIS 2. I actually enjoyed playing him even if for a hour or so, even though I was against it, I had more fun in that one than I did with the 2 episodes of LIS 2.

Reading from the fan wiki doesn't help either as I'm not alone in thinking this as a fan wrote below someone's input :
"I also agree that it would be really unfair to not give Chris a big role in LIS2, seeing as there's a whole game surrounding him and his home life."

I don't know, maybe I was the fool for expecting more from his character, but I really don't see how they are going to make him appear again in a natural way without us having to either go back to the grandparents or maybe be arrested and he's called to the stand as a witness?
Lyla is kind of the same, but I can actually see a way for her to make an appearance again and have an actual real consequence due to our actions.

I'm guessing that either Chris or his dad will show up later, especially if the court theory is correct, Chris' dad might go against you if he knows you let Chris get hurt.

That's true, he could also be held accountable for child neglect as we know he was probably drunk at the time as usual, and could be even more against you. Or he's fine because Chris is fine and vouches for you.

Hopefully it matters at least a little bit if Chris' dad likes you or not.

The point of Awesome Adventures was to hype up the new game with a tech demo showing off the mechanics of how events will play without you initiating interaction with them. The phone rings at the same time always you might not even hear it if you go outside to play around, the microwave takes time to cook, the fire goes out if you dont put more logs in.

Yeah but is that really it? The whole point of this character was to show off the engine, and then briefly appear in the story? It would be stupid for them to not give us closure with this character after the possibility of having an injury like that.

If they plan to do more with Chris I wouldn't expect it until the final episode when it is time to tie up loose ends. If Chris is dead in the play through then the focus can be on Chris's dad, if you talk to the dad about how he treats his son maybe you get a nice little clip of the family, or you didn't and things stay the same with them where the dad is trying but its not good enough. That's about all I would expect.

The whole writing is just so off. I really expected Lyla and Chris to join them on their adventure, so we'd have a cast of characters to get attached to. But they got less screentime than episode 3 characters, who are even more pointless. It's like they're not even trying to tell a smart and emotional story. Just think about what Before the Storm did with three episodes.

I hope it turns out Lyla ran away trying to find us instead of just doing a Kate Marsh again. I strongly feel like will go with the latter though.

Then that just brings it back to my orignal question, what was the point?
It just feels like it was pointless filler to keep us patient for LIS 2.
Did your choices really matter in that game, especially when they said it would? Even when I went to play Episode 2 without completing Chris's story, it strongly warns you to complete it as your choices will carry over, but the only difference I see is his outfit changes.

To be fair that is consistent with them telling us our choices from lis1 would matter. Switched a graphic, now be happy and immersed!

The Life is Strange 2 follow a different path where we have throw away characters like Chris, Finn/Cassidy and Lyla there serve as a function for a single episode.

And we only have minor reference to them in the following episode.

no, the point of it was to show why he was running out to the treehouse, why he was so afraid of Charles, why he and Daniel were so happy to have met each other, and also for Sean to be able to see the stark contrasts between his single-falther upbringing and Chris's. e.g. Sean realizing how unappreciative he was of Esteban working his arse off for him, while seeing Chris clinging to and defending Charles even though he treats Chris like crap and has basically given up on life.

the biggest difference is if you play Captain Spirit, you'll better be able to guess which of his toys are villains and heroes. get them right, Chris will give you a collectible and you'll be able to get him to open up a bit about his home life. Only if you do that will you later be able to talk to Charles about it which will convince him he needs help and Chris needs a better home for a while. it's clear to me dontnod put a lot of thought into these things, and did these things for a reason.

And my argument still stands. Pointless things like that could've easily just been added to the main game, they split their time on two different projects, one just being filler like that and the live action trailer and then we wonder why they are taking soo long on finishing the game.
Even Lyla would've been better as she's actually close to the protangist and been there before all the major events happened. It's like making a game off of the lady at the gas station or the family outside, what is the point when they are such minor characters.
jz78817 May 12, 2019 @ 11:44am
I think it was also meant to get people to care about Chris a lot more. I really believe he will turn out to be more than a "throwaway" character. he's the only non-main character for which they've developed such an extensive backstory.

hey, it worked on me. when I got the bad ending for ep. 2 it really bummed me out.

Having the character require outside knowledge for better results in the game is problemtic at best when you want to create a cohesive universe.
