IMO Shawn seems less happy with the friendship zone route but it’s probably the more responsible one with all that is going on.
Not sure why... Maybe it has to do with how Daniel feels about Cassidy vs how he feels about Finn, or maybe it just throws Daniel for a loop and he is not sure what to make of it.
For all his questionable decision making and choices, I got the impression that Finn does
genuinely care for Sean and Daniel. There was quite a bit of flirting going on there. Finn was
throwing it out there pretty much every chance he got. And he probably did go out on a limb with Merrill when he got Sean the job on the farm. Especially so since it's obvious that Merrill did NOT like Daniel being there. So that must've taken a fair amount of effort on Finn's part to make that happen. All of that well before any notion of the heist was in play or any knowledge of Daniel's power.
What really sealed me against Sean and Cassidy getting together was that back and forth conversation she has with Hannah during the weed trimming interval. It's pretty apparent that Cassidy is not very inclined to having ties that bind. She says as much during the campfire scene. To my mind, Sean becoming involved with her would come to no good end. And I actually like Cassidy a lot. She has a lot of good qualities. I just really doubt her capacity to stay invested in someone or something.
Oddly enough, despite his ill-thought out scheme..(which I think was motivated more by a fear of losing Sean and Daniel..as they were just told to leave) I think Finn would be more likely to stand by someone if push came to shove. From everything I saw in Ep 3, he seems to value human relationships and interaction more than Cass.
Of course, any analysis we do about fictional characters' personalities and motivations can only be done by viewing them as though they were real people. It's even more speculative than most since these characters haven't had the totality of their stories told as of yet. Anything we suggest, the writers could do a completely opposite arc and invalidate all out well conceived ideas. It is rather fun, though.
I was a bit put off by what was nesseary to get Finn.
I came across an article online that seems relevant. It’s an interview with the lead writer. Warning ⚠️ possibly spoilers ⚠️
https://www.polygon.com/2019/7/2/20679924/life-is-strange-2-sex-scene-cassidy-sean-dontnod
Really it’s the last sentence in that article that has me curious.
It almost seemed a bit like getting punished for choosing to play Shawn as gay (or Bi or maybe just curious doing a one time thing, who knows) since you can only be that way if you choose to let Shawn get talked into a really dumb idea. So maybe another way of looking at it is,whatever happens next, will balance that out so to speak.
That makes two of us...
I think you've got some great points here... :-)
And I totally agree...being forced to do the heist to unlock the Finn option was sketchy as hell.
It felt like it was either that it was tacked on at the end or they didn't have the courage to put it
on an equal footing with Cass. And the whole Finn can die, but Cass can't? Seriously?
It's also true that Sean's not in a good place mentally or emotionally to begin a "romance" But..and this is a big but for me....don't drop it now. Follow through on them. I'm getting kind of tired of not having persistent characters around Sean. And, if they do follow through on them,
follow through on both of them. Of course, it wouldn't surprise me at all if you never see Cass or Finn again.
And, on the subject of the heist...there's an element to that event that will do down as one of
THE DUMBEST things ever put in a video game:
You can manage to not alert Big Joe entirely so he can't warn Merrill.
You can take out all the cameras and sneak in quietly.
You get in ..and you suddenly get amazingly stupid and decide to blow open the safe with
Merrill a room or so away???.
It never occurred to any of them to have Daniel take the safe out of the office, load it on to the truck and drive away, opening it well away from Merrill's place. That never crossed their minds?
The ironic part of that being that they totally could have pulled that heist off successfully. I'd be happy if they even tried to do that and have it so it's too heavy for Daniel to move. Though with the whole gigantic tree trunk incident, it's likely he could have moved it. I know it's "the plot" and '
it has to move forward. But can't it move forward without the characters diving in to the deep end of the Stupid Pool.
