Nope.

Second chance?..Don't know about that. But I didn't see the point in making it even more antagonistic than what it was. Given the situation..Daniel in a cult..setting aside differences seemed the way to go. There'll be time enough later on to sort through old wounds.

Ironically, after meeting Karen, I saw some striking similarities to Cassidy. Neither wants roots, to be tied down to a family, place or obligation. Finn, whatever his character defects, refers to family and relationships as being of importance to him. He seems more like Esteban in that regard. Not sure if any of that was intentional, but it did strike me as interesting.

No way. There were other ways she could have handled her unhappiness, besides just never speaking to her sons again... She is very selfish, imo.
Yup, at least she showed up, and the game did great in shaping her character, a normal person who run away not because she too had power, just for she had made a choice.

Karen does not deserve a second chance because she has not asked for one. She does not want to change her ways.

Nope.
She doesn't regret what she did and was exceptionally selfish and put herself above her own children. She has no desire to change. She now just wants to be in their lives now after abandoning them. So unless she shows some real desire to change, then no. I feel like if she somehow actually was asked to care for them as an actual mother, she probably wouldn't go for it. She'd probably try to push them onto her parents.

Max sort of did the same thing

Max didn't plan to ditch Chloe on purpose.

Losing touch with your best friend is not the same as abandoning your sons...

Max was a bit cold, but things happen, you lose touch, you move on from old friends. I've known folks who were military brats who had separate sets of friends each time their family moved to a new base, with no overlap. A friend I've had for going on 30 years now was lucky if he kept a friendship for more than five years before they'd end up in the pile of used-to-be's. That's just how his life was at the time. He did outgrow that, thank goodness, because I'd hate to have been a former friend.

So, I can understand Max seemingly giving up a friendship with Chloe, simply because they were not in close proximity. It still sucks a bit, what Max did, but nothing like what Karen managed to accomplish in becoming less than a finalist for a mother of the year award. I'd like to think she's unique in those regards, but she's unfortunately all too common, and not just in America. Hell, at least she didn't sell off her kids to the highest bidder, for whatever evil purposes the buyers might have intended for them. One point in Karen's favor, anyway.

Exactly
Was it bad for her to do that? Yes.
But losing contact with your friends, especially childhood friends is very common, however purposely walking out on your family, it's also common sadly, but there's a clear difference.
I don't have kids but I'd rather chop off all my limbs then ever abandon my child, and if I absolutely had to there's no away I'd go cold turkey and I'd do anything and everything to show them that I still love and care and always will.

I think the worst part isn't her leaving the family... It's her not contacting them for 9 years. To the point where Daniel even said: "Who are you?"

Sure, she didn't want her life stuck in a family. But visit she could sons once in a while. Not just act like they don't exist and then come back years later and ask for forgiveness.

For me, yeah.

She wasn't ready to be a mom, think she simply did both of them a favor by not ruining their lives with their problems.

Everyone deserves a second chance.
