Game refuses to recognize controller as first player

I was trying to play the game with a controller and it keeps assigning the controller to 2nd player and first player to keyboard, with no way of assigning the controller to first player from what I can find. Anybody know how to achive this? Want to play with controller and not an extra shape sitting there if possible.

Well I figured it out, I needed to set a button to be enter to start the game instead of pressing A which is both start game and join game.

I'm having the opposite problem. When i plug in a controller, it overrides P1 and they both move the same character. Makes it impossible for me to play couch co-op.

I actually had the controller reset itself and refused to be 1st player again, and my previous fix didn't work again. :c

Ok, if you use the enter key to make your selections it wont add the 2nd player. Also, dont use "x" on the controller(PS4) to dash. You can also hold "square" during gameplay to remove the 2nd player if you happen to accidently hit "x".
