There can be up to 6 player controlled clans and all the clans would play against AI and each other depending on the match schedules. It is not cooperative per se.

You can play your matches vs another human via "hotseat". It is quite fun, actually.
If one wanted to play this "head to head" via the internet, one could consider using Team Viewer.
