I don't get this game?
I'm in a pickle. I'm pretty much done with this game now, not even having finished the third Act. I don't get all the praise. Am I missing something? Am I just not yet at the point where the game gets really good?

I guess this is an adhoc review of my experience. I played this game on PC with a controller.

I'm a big sucker for indie games, innovation and interesting twists. Music in games is my biggest love and I will always buy the game soundtrack bundled if I can, which I also did for wandersong. But while this game sure had a few funny moments in the short hours I played it, the gameplay is just plain boring to me. It feels to me just like two simon says kits glued together. Never did I feel like i was actually singing the songs, I was just looking for the directions and then pushing in that direction (Colorblind by the way). Yes there was some more stuff (moving the plants with song) and I bet (I hope actually) there would be more interesting elements coming, but every time the main char opens his mouth to sing it grates on my nerves. I finally shut the game off at the end of Act three because the way all the music mixed together sounded astoundingly horrible to me, and it was just not fun to just follow the directions and getting that one note singing into my ears.

Really this breaks my heart. I hate to criticize a music based game on it's music, but this was just unbearable to me.
And I seem to be virtually the only one. I haven't seen one bad word about this game. Am I just broken somewhere? Why does everyone love this game? I'm sorry to say this was a dud for me :/

Also I had a bug in the Act 3 town. when I moved left to get to the cemetary, it played some kind of sound and placed me right back into the town. I couldn't get to the cemetary.
Turns out, when you move left and HOLD THE STICK TO THE LEFT DURING THAT TRANSITIONS, the bug would occur and throw me back into the town. If i moved just far enough to the left where the transition starts and then let go of the stick, it would transition as normal.
What really confused me was the sound that played, because it sounded like some magic kept me in the town. So i was running around for 30 minutes very confused where i had to go...

Sorry it isn't your thing! Most of the game hinges on your enjoyment of the characters. If you don't love them, you likely won't love the game. FWIW, Act 3 forward starts to play with the singing mechanic in more interesting ways, and the story has a fairly major plot twist not too far past that as well.

BUT, we didn't know about that scene loading bug! Thanks for letting us know--a patch has just been uploaded that should correct it.

Sorry to hear you don't like this game so far. To be fair, it's not about the gameplay, but about the story. I'd say give the game a further chance (right through the intermission is when it drastically changes tone). And remember, Miriam was probably once like you: annoyed by The Bard's singing. Please don't give up!

That's Act 2 actually, and yeah it's likely a known bug to the devs by this point. The trick is to exit slowly to the left (at least, until this bug gets patched). The sound that plays is identical to some of the falling sounds heard in the spirit worlds.

You're not broken if you don't like the game, and there's probably other people out there who would put it far more ... harshly than you did.

While I think it's a great game, it's honestly not for everyone. The game does change up how it handles the "Simon Says" mechanic as you put it, and it does this fairly frequently, but the majority of the gameplay still relies on pushing directions with the joystick.

There's also some segments that require you to think outside of the box and don't rely on the Bard's voice at all, so you do have some other sorts of puzzles to look forward to.

However, if you don't like the game, you don't like the game. And that's fine - you're entitled to your feelings on the matter. Your feelings don't erase mine. And I'd rather people not force themselves to play a game they don't like just because others do.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Wow, I thought for sure you would've found out eventually. Either way, thanks again!
