Is this the same version that's in Day of the Tentacle?

Which Day of the Tentacle? The original DOS version (which has the old version) or the Remastered (which has the Enhanced version)?
Both original and Remastered have full Maniac Mansion game inside Ed's computer.
don't forget unofficial Deluxe version
Ok so the answer is this has both versions that is available in each DotT release.

A Maniac Mansion "ROM in NES emulator" re-release (like what MMLC1 is) would have been better imo. If they could remove the censorship... like I'm really scratching my head at this release...

There might be copyright issues as the NES version was ported by a third party.
It appears they removed the .exe files so you can't run them in DOS (or DOSBox) though.

ScummVM should work.

Both games run under ScummVM, I was just mentioning they removed the DOS based game engine.

I'd like the NES as version optionally, but as a classic Lucasfilm game the homecomputer versions (esp. PC) seem the most authentic to me.

Indeed they removed the .exe...however theres a tool called double fine viewer which allows to dump the DOTT remastered file and then take the .LFL files into SCUMM VM and play Maniac Mansion 1 in there :)

What censorship? I've never played this game before, so I'm curious. I hate knowing that I'm not seeing the intended version of a game.
Here's a good writeup of the censorship:

Thanks! Looks like the Steam version isn't censored then.
Day of the Tentacle takes place about 5 years after Maniac Mansion
Just as a heads-up, the original DOS version of DOTT came with the "old" version of Maniac Mansion.

This product has both the "old" and Enhanced versions of Maniac Mansion.
