So are we just pretending there was no Double Dragon V?
So we're ignoring Double Dragon V? I'm fine with that, that game sucked.

What?

At least Double Dragon V on the SNES was better than Double Dragon II for the PS3. That game was really really bad.

It's not fair to compare a fighting game to a beat em up.

...But then again, it's not fair to compare pretty much anything to DD2 for the PS3. Now that is one BAAAAAD game.

Double Dragon V wasn't part of the same continuity though as it was based on the cartoon, and neither was the "old" DD4 (Super Double Dragon).

I haven't played Wander the Dragons, but Shadow Falls is possibly the single worst 1-on-1 fighter I've ever played. I find it unlikely they messed up that bad.

We can all agree both of those games sucked. It's better no pretend they never happened.

I think it's funny that the trailer starts with the end of Double Dragon II for NES, Has all the sprites and enemies from DD2, but then its called IV? It makes it look like you just redesigned the levels, and added 3 enemies. Other than that it's DD2. I don't have a problem with this, DD2 for NES was the best, I guess I just find it ammusing.

What were you expecting them to do? Call it Double Dragon 3?

DD3 and DD5 were the most forgettable IMO. If you want the arcade experience of the good Double Dragons (1 and 2). get a PS4.

I liked the NES version of DD2 for what it was. Several arcade ports to the NES were much different than their arcade counterparts, as they were not meant to be quarter takers on the NES. Bionic Commando and Rygar are very good examples of this among others.

Rygar and Bionic Commando were more of sequels than ports, though. There was really nothing left of the arcade games in there.

Fun Fact: Double Dragon V's Billy and Jimmy designs come from the cartoon, which were based on The US Super Double Dragon boxart[static.giantbomb.com], which were Americanized copies of the Japanese Double Dragon 3 boxart[doubledragon.kontek.net], which was also re-Japanized for the Return of Double Dragon boxart[doubledragon.kontek.net] (released 6 months after SDD), and the series concept was initially swiped from Fist of the North Star[doubledragon.kontek.net] from the very beginning.

So, if you were ever wondering why the Double Dragon cartoon designs look like a braindead attempt at making an Americanized Kenshiro, this is why...and that's just the tip of the iceberg for how convoluted and mind-boggling this franchise can get.

Another Fun Fact: I just found out while making this post that the weird character select icons from the Genesis and NES ports of Battletoads and Double Dragon[www.gamepilgrimage.com] were actually plagiarized from the obscure Game Boy port of Double Dragon 3's boxart.[www.hardcoregaming101.net] Always wondered what was up with that...even that boxart looks swiped from something though. Reb Brown?

Double Dragon V was made by another company based off of the cartoon. They called it 5 since it was the 5th Double Dragon released. The problem with that is "Super Double Dragon" was never called 4 so a fighting game that has nothing to do with any other game shouldn't have been called 5.

It's legimate to call this part 4.

It wasn't even really the fifth though as both the Game Gear game and Battletoads/Double Dragon came before. And the GameBoy version of Double Dragon II was a completely different game (a reskinned Kunio game). I guess you could say it was the fifth major/mainline Double Dragon game, but it's still messy.

They do this because this is a direct sequel to DD2 for NES. DD3 for NES was actually a prequel to DD2, not a sequel to it. Storylinewise.
