Try imagine a line from your character weapon to the crosshair, and if the line goes through the enemy head, you will hit a headshot (assuming no recoil / deviation is in effect), just try a bit on some humanoids
If you stand frontally to an enemy, (below him basically on screen) you need to hit dead center however for the same result.

Given your lack of input as to how long you've played, your semi-private profile which didnt let me see how many hours you have in the game, the screenshot you posted showing only 31 kills, your comment of "because I have yet to score a single headshot in all my runs.", and that you were asking how headshot mechancs work, i assumed that you were a new player. Therefore i offered my advice on how you might obtain these elusive headshots.
Rather than being rude and cryptic you could have simple re-stated that your score screen always shows zero headshots even when you believe that you've been getting them. There was no way for me to know that you were actually capable of getting headshots given that your posts made you sound like a newer player. I even elaborated on the fact that i had trouble getting them when i started as well so it was safe to assume that if you were a new player you might have had trouble too. I was genuinely trying to help by offering the best advice i could give with the information available.
I have done a bit of testing and confirmed that disabling damage text results in headshots not being counted on the end-score screen while damage text is disabled. If you enable damage text, get a few headshots and then disable it, those headshots will count toward the score at the end. Headshots are actually still happening in game, as confirmed by increased damage being dealt and the Rogue's Perfection skill still triggering. Additionally, the damage from those headshots is still being included in the total damage dealt at the end of the game even if damage text is disabled. Will add this to my bugtracker.
EDIT: Forgot to include that it seems like the headshot sound does not play when damage text is disabled.
