Upgrading upgrade kits
So, anybody found a way to properly utilize on being able to stack&upgrade the weapon upgrade kits?
In theory, it sounds cool, but trying to make use of it, in practice, seems kinda bothersome and pointless.

I've tried just collecting the kits and dumping all my money into upgrading them. That usually lasts until after the second boss (like most of my runs), but at that point the upgraded kits (1500 credits upgrade) still only have like a 12% chance for a double upgrade.

I mean, if you've managed to get that far without any weapon upgrades, then chances are you wouldn't even need them in the first place. That 12% chance very likely still won't trigger on the 4-5 kits you've got at this point, but you've spent upwards of 2,5k credits on them.

Imho it's just not worth it, at least not how it's working right now. For it to be worth it the % chance for an extra upgrade needs to increase way more when upgrading the kits.

this can be a viable strategy if you want to get a lot of kits, but it costs you not using kits for a long time and credits

Cash for upgrades has diminishing returns, and even the initial returns are pretty small to begin with. I almost never upgrade anything beyond twice, unless I'm swimming in money and it's a good item (like the commando's overdose, upgrading to 200% gives something like 816 heal points rather than 650).

There's zero point in dumping money into WUK upgrades, because the higher drop chance isn't a whole lot. It's fine to jack it up a couple times, because double drop chance is better than nothing (protip: make sure you have a power token set to them in the menu screen so they start at 120%), but beyond that it's a waste of time and cash. The same applies to most items.

On the flip side, finding a weapon upgrade shop is definitely a place you can burn all your money for good value. I usually don't simply spam the upgrade button there until it says MAX though, usually a particular weapon fails in a certain area and once I have 2 or 3 upgrades for that specific area (like larger mag or smaller deviation) then I stop.

Upgrade kits might be bugged in terms of item boosts ATM. I've had them at excessively high power levels and there seems to be no difference.

They did definitely used to sometimes count for two upgrades though. Maybe reduced due to bosses dropping them now, now sure.

I always power up my upgrade kits to 200% before I use them and I've yet to get a double upgrade.

Supposively the higher power level gives your weapons better stat increases when you use them, but I don't see a way to test it without actual numbers to measure it with.

I'll most likely stop spending credits on them soon.

Yeah, they absolutely used to, but I wonder if something broke or they were changed and the tooltip didn't get updated.

Just as an example, due to a bug/testing run, I managed to get a bunch of kits up to ~9000% item power and it still didn't guarantee additional upgrades. I posted it as a potential issue on the discord, though. I would not recommend spending anything on them as of yet.

Yup that's another odity I noticed: Not once have I had the double upgrade trigger for me, and I did several runs where I did spend pretty much all my credits on a upgrade kits. Maybe the double chance is actually bugged?

Better stat increase on weapons should be testable, doesn't the weapon stat menu show values when hovering over the graphs?

I'm pretty sure it is, if you saw my above post. :X

It absolutely worked before, would give either double stats or double attachments. Maybe it was adjusted due to bosses dropping kits though.

Um, in case anyone in this thread is confused, the item power does not give you a single "double upgrade," it increases the chances of obtaining two WUKs when on item pickup. Maybe it's just phrasing, but it sounds like a couple people here expect a single kit to give you two different upgrades one after the other. I've never seen that happen. I HAVE seen the WUK counter increase by 2 when I grabbed one off the ground, although I can't remember seeing that happen since update 15.

So now we already have two versions of what the upgrade is supposedly doing, does anybody know what it's actually supposed to be doing? :joyUB:

I know this thread is quite old but I found it by searching to see if there was any info on potential benefits of upgrading weapon upgrade kits. I didn't find any more recent threads on this topic. Do we still not have an answer to this almost a year later?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

upgrade kits have the same effect as the weapon upgrade shop after you used 4 on a weapon. I upgrade my kits 4 times and use a power token. I avoid using the weapon shop and instead use WUKs.

By the way, if you have more luck, WUKs drop more often.

Is the chance for golden upgrades related to item power?

Never worth it.

You will get enough kits to fully upgrade two weapons and their stats. This is more than enough for the run.

If you want to spend money, use it to upgarde passive damage items with cooldown like Twin Link. They get both stronger effects and CD reduction.

It depends a bit. Usually i don't find that many kits, although the weapon upgrade shrine is also an option. Weapon kits scale with luck, so if you find body upgrades with lucks you'll likely not need to upgrade the kit. Different classes also get different amounts of money, as sniper for example you don't need to be that frugal. Upgrading items with cooldowns is pretty great, and a reducer can help with on hit items if you are lucky enough to get one. Especially cool when you're playing engineers as this helps you spam drones.
