They start with the normal tutorial and then progress through the 5 chapters of Martyr, before entering into Prophecy.
Tech adept is the only exception.
They get their own 7 mission tutorial and then start directly into Prophecy, skipping the base game campaign entirely.
For story reasons I would suggest to finish Martyr on your crusader first.
Stick to the main story and you should be done reasonably fast.
All the sidestories, like Drukhari Menace and Chaos Undivided, will be available on your tech adept as well, once you reach the required level.
With horror I found out the hard way that chars you create offline can't just switch to online later on (I started offline because I hate this forced always-on-BS and all the crap you are bombarded with when online). But I do have a few friends that might get this game, too.
So, if we want to play coop, what do we have to do?
We all need to have characters in online play.
Can we play the campaign together?
If so how does that work if we have different progress? Can the one that is more advanced repeat previous missions? Can I invite players that haven't progressed far enough? Is there a limitation when Levels don't match? Do we need to be in the same clan?
And in extension: I saw that, when creating a new char, there is an option to skip the campaign. What does that actually do, I'll start doing random missions as a level 1?
And since I do have Prophecy but the Tech-Adept seems to work differently ...
...
Okay, let's put it this way:
I do have a Crusader in offline mode and a Tech Adept in online but only played a few missions.
I want to play coop with my friend(s) who will be new and start from scratch. If possible I'd like to play the campaign. What's the best way to do that? And does the approach differ if one of us wants to play a Tech-Adept?
Tertiary question: At the end of Chapter 3 I had to do this moral choice between puritan and radical. Do we all need to make the same choice? When does the Tech Adept or any character that skips the main campaign do this choice?
To coop campaign missions everyone in the party has to be at the same point or further.
Here is where the tech adept problem comes in.
TAs don't have access to the Martyr campaign.
So despite being further in the story (in Prophecy) they still can't participate in Martyr campaign missions.
TAs also miss out on the morality choices in Martyr, but there are still enough choices to reach 300 in any given morality as long as you stick to one side all the way.
If you skip the campaign, you can just choose your morality at the start and will be at 300 from level 1.
If you want to play through the campaign with your friends, create new characters, either all in the same season or all non-seasonal.
There is no way to coop across different seasons.
Also make sure not to pick tech adept.
Play through the 5 mission tutorial and then form a party.
You can then play through the campaign together.
There are a few vehicle missions that everyone will have to play one their own, though.
Since we all have different amounts of time to play it's probably best that we all have our own, seperate main char and a twink that's only for play coop (and can't be a tech adept).
Thanks again!
I finished the main campaign now, but it was 4 chapters, not 5. There is another one but it's called Prophecy - so, does that mean the original campaign has 4 chapters and the 5th chapter is actually the DLC? Or does that mean I am not actually finished and the last chapter just happens to be called "Prophecy"?
I started to do some side missions/campaigns for now to avoid doing anything "wrong". Does the Tech Adept main campaign start at this point or later?
My friend is ready to join this evening, I decided to try out the Psyker. Started a new character in online mode, non-season and finished the tutorial. It now says Mission 2 of Chapter 1. I will guide him through the tutorial and hopefully we can pick up from there.
Thanks in advance, you've been of great help
Most classes start with encounter with Martyr when they arrive on "commandered" ship of Rogue Trader but expedition going wrong and they lose their retinue. Then eventually they risk everything in defending Pariah chamber from chaos invasion despite repeatedly beign told that they have low chance to survive if they don't leave now. All the while they are helped by the Machine Spirit of Martyr and another inquisitor (which is actually the apprentice of our Lord Inquisitor only mental block made our MC to forget it. Normally, they survive this... But not on Tech Adept timeline.
Tech Adept start from researching some outpost. Where he start for investigating why his retinue doesn't answer his calls. End up them, aside of captain of his ship, are also all dead.
Fighting throught tyranids, knife-ears and automatic defence in search of information about creator of Pariaр he eventually founds bread-crumbs that lead him to Martyr... Where, due to some misunderstanding, he becomes enemy of Martyr's machine spirit who tries it's hardest to kill him while also fighting Chaos incursion. Unfortunally, the Lord Inquisitor that went on it before (other clases) died and due to Tech Adept losing his own ship in most epic fasion, he... commanders Rogue Trader vessel with all it's crew, including space marine, tech adept and others. That's how he gets the same hub as other classes. It's actually pretty smart.
He skip all that "crewmember gathering" that other classes need to do. He have much easier time to unlock Pariah chamber. From this point all other content is basically the same.
Sure, there is difference in dialogues (Tech Adept is much smarter, practical and suprisingly sarcastic), he have slightly easier time operating some consoles but all further Martyr content is reused, and there is no gameplay differences for other campaigns.
Two things you need to keep in mind thought.
If you finish all campaigns as Tech Adept your will NOT unlock ability to skip campaign for other characters. Only for Tech Adept. You will understand why it's bad when you finish all campaigns once.
And Tech Adept have a "techfragment" based progression for his constructs which you ONLY going to get when you play as Tech Adept. So even when you reach level 100 there is hundreds of hours to grind until all your favourite constructs reach level 100 too (and they can actually reach level 150, but it's require insane amount of techfragments). The amount of techfragments you get based on level difficulty of the mission and doesn't seem to be affected by any modificator.
