Uther's Tarot Math
TL,DR: Crafted Tarot missions are more efficient than random for levelling. Just spam Possession and Unending Duty every time.

I was looking at the Tarot missions and thinking about the most efficient method to level a character. Is it better to do a random mission for 90Fate or a crafted one for 100Fate?

The Major Arcana is going to give you 75 XP no matter the mission. So that's a wash.

The Minor Arcana is where the edge happens. These cards are worth 0-20XP each and you get two.

For random missions: The base 5 minor arcana equate to an average of 10XP per card. So the average random mission will net you 95XP for the cost of 90Fate. Over the course of ten missions (900FP), you're getting 1.06XP per Fate.
I've only unlocked 2 of the additional (bugged) Tarot cards at 15XP each. Presuming the third available is the same XP, the average mission becomes worth 98.75XP. The XP bumps up to 1.097XP per Fate.

For crafted missions: You're paying an additional 10Fate for these missions, so you're only getting nine missions to the ten from random. However, you can maximize your return to 110XP every mission for 1.1XP per Fate. With the bugged cards, this bumps up to 1.15XP. Additionally, you get to pick what type of mission you're running, so that you favor items you want. Plus, you can spam the Possession card to get 13 additional Fate, compared to the 5.2 from a random.

Not to mention loads of artificer items you can sell for fate.

Yeah. There's really no practical advantage for doing Random Tarots, since you'll make back the difference in Fate and then some, plus being able to narrow your drops to things that you actually want or need. You do need more seed Fate to START a mission, but since you ultimately make that back (with a smidge of interest), you might as well just cobble together the Tarots yourself.

Yeah i have been doing this lately to try and get gear since i have the store bug where everything vanishes on me when i mouse over so i cant buy anything.

If you do it right it and use the demon card that gives you fate you can do almost nothing but these and level insanely fast.

SUGGESTION > Would love to see a change to group tarot missions. There is really no point to group unless you build a group that is all ranged like you are or melee like you that i can see. You spend fate to follow someone who picks all the cards they need and end up with things like melee weapons that i have absolutely no use for.

Would be much better if it was changed so each player picks the cards that he actually wants (though that would be tricky as your cards change all enemies) so a good fix til then would be to either give others cards that dont effect enemies, or let them join and spend half to no fate to group.

While I do basically like and understand the current implementation of Tarots, I also agree that there could be some tweaks and/or refinements.

I personally would lean towards a system like what Warframe used to do with its Void Keys - someone forms a group and hosts a given mission, offering up their Key and their Key alone; everyone else is along for the ride. With that system, seeing parties that got together all with the same type of Key and basically took turns using them, doing 4 missions together for the price of 1 each.

In the case of Inquisitor: Martyr's current implementation, I'd probably go with a significantly reduced cost for the folks that didn't build the Tarot themselves.

All the above said, I still really like the system that's been implemented, as since all parties have to spend the same amount of Fate to run a Tarot mission, they all have a stake and ideally some say in the outcome and rewards of a mission, which is good for teamwork.

Oh and dont tarot in groups! The leader can get up to 110 fate while the rest of the party only gets 100. ALWAYS Tarot alone! Seems like a bug yes but atm you might loose fate by tarot in party.
