Grim Dawn maybe but it has outdated engine. Path of exile - just no. Another chinese donate p2w crap.
POE p2w? not really exept they have changed in the last Year wich i doubt much. As far as i know you only pay for Cosmetics wich has nothing to do with winning. Besdides that both POE and GD are great ARPGs and even if i didnt play POE much i have to say its Art Style is outstanding and the same counts for GDs big and detailed Maps.
My main complaint (even though I love the game) is lack of mission variety.. even in the DLC missions how many time you gotta hold A next to a cognitor and fight a few waves of enemies gets a bit redundant and messes with the pacing.
My wish is for missions against the T'au, Orks, and Necrons to be added in as DLC story missions and appearing in random missions.
Honestly don't know why anyone would play Helldivers when this is so much better.
But compared with PoE or D3 ?? No.. far from even competitive.
-> Coop is not working properly, a ton of issues not fixed within last 2 months.. etc etc
I also would like to see that Metal Reaper Online comes back, you may want ot go to its Hub and make Noise for it too if you dont mind xD
When it comes to GD i think it has really everything a ARPG needs except a Soul, what i mean is there is no Character or Event wich stays in my Mind after playing it.
I'd agree with that, I mainly play it for the game play and plethora of builds. Graphics are good enough to get by and the lightning / atmosphere is great. Story is presented just as poorly as PoE's (to me).
It's an excellent game, but I think "absolute masterpiece" is a bit of a stretch. It doesn't quite have the refinement and emotional impact that warrants that label.
It is visually stunning, I'll give it that. I play it on PC at 2k resolution (1440p) on a 27" monitor and it is some serious eye candy. I often wish I could go into FPS mode just to look more closely at the artwork.
The skills are just mediocre and don't actually require any... uhm... skill. Builds are totally gear dependent. Which... is not necessarily a bad thing... if that's what you're into. And hey, don't get me wrong, I'm a grinder, so... yeah, I can do that.
But, speed running the same few maps while spamming a single skill, or two, and effortlessly wiping out everything in seconds gets old quick.
A few things I like off the top of my head:
- Interactions and banter with the various NPCs in your "retinue." Some of the lines from Omicron Arkh are highly amusing.
- Challenges. I'm a cheevoholic. I've spent hundreds of hours in other games just grinding out and unlocking achievements/items/skills/etc.
- Crafting system. It's actually pretty good.
- The Star Map. The mission/investigation navigation system. Very cool.
- Difficulty & reward adjustments. Tarot Cards are a brilliant idea!
