Mission result is only saved to the server on a regular "mission end".
Quiting the game regularily or clicking the leave button on the small summary box in the end.
Even if you failed the mission, as long as you don't click the leave button, you can stil ALT + F4
Not that I would recommend doing it, but there are some circumstances in which I have done it.
Panick Room missions where enemies spawned inside the room and killed the target the moment I got close.
Hot Pursuite where the target got killed by ToA.
Like warp magic hehe.
Because I failed this weak ass mission by mistake it was level 4 I think I had to escort an assassin women and she blew up by accident on the mines which I just walked through like a tank and didn't think to shoot them (I think you can detonate them like that) so when I created a new character that mission was nowhere to be found. It's the missions when you click on solar system looking icon and has a list of missions from hardest to the very bottom easiest.
So explain that?
The only place where failing a mission actually has negative consequences are void crusades.
A failed mission may block of a path on the crusade map or entirely fail the crusade.
This will lead to decreased rewards/no rewards at the end of the crusade.
And yet this isn't gamebreaking. Annoying, yes, but nothing you can't redo in the next crusade.
