Strafing/dodging question.
Am I missing something, or can you not strafe or dodge in this game? I can take cover (thought that doesn't always seem to stop all projectiles) but my only of way of dodging appears to be just to run away. I can't even seem to walk backwards.

the assassin is the only class with the dodge roll and I heard there are certain guns you can walk backwards while firing (though since I haven't played the game I can't tell you which guns or how to do it).

The Autogun and heavy bolter have a "disengage" skill mechanic that allows you to shot while back pedaling, for the cover to be more useful theres a skill that increase the damage reduction while in cover, or that hp/supression replenish faster, however cover does help as it is but there seems to be mid cover and full cover, also if in cover while yo attack or shoot the damage reducion seem to be lower. As responded above the dodging is exclusive to the Assassin class.

Oh? That's useful to know but it still seems odd that, as an official Badass of the Imperium, I'm running away from enemies in a pretty undignified fashion.

Unlees your're actually complaining about playing a crusader (which DOES have a MUCH more difficult time avoiding hits/damage compared to psykers and assassins)- play a melee build- its very difficult to power up melee builds when first starting, but once you have complementary gear and perma suppression (that perk that EVERY melle player LOVES), you can pretty much WADE through anything- there quite simply is no need to be able to dodge OR seek cover. However, having said that I DO agree with you almost completely- having played a ranged crusader (shotgun) for quite some time before switching, I can tell I was always DESPERATELY looking for near cover set-ups at all times, as my suppression resistance would always be eroded to nothing within seconds in the highest level missions- in fact I NEVER dared to do a golden quality mission- yet now that I have a melee build those (and red missions in the 2300 PR/PL zone) are pretty much the ONLY missions I seek- to max out fate and glory as rapidly as possible. Believe me i TRIED to add EVERY vulnerability, debuff and slow effect I possibly to encounters when 'shotgunning' it..and it only seemed to help about 20% of the time...and when the drukhari were introduced...especially those medusae that could 'EAT' heatlh RIGHT THROUGH your suppression shield - oh hell yes I simply had no choice but to go melee- I could not survive ANYT of the drukhari missions until I did so....

Heavy Flamer has the 'fall back and fire' mechanic. So does Sniper RIfle and Needler Sniper Rifle for Assassin.

I don't think there are any others atm with such.

As for dodge? Crusader is a tank and tanks don't dodge stuff well. (Just ask any fighter pilot. :) )

Psyker has an armor with a teleport ability, but that is pretty much it for that too. Although Levitate is kind of cool in that you can bypass mines, traps and some toxins. Not a combat ability, but kind of cool.

The assault crusader armours ability is basically a power jump with splash damage/ I prefer the missile spam one though, great for killing bosses (at point blank range a salvo will take 50% of health off any boss and usually kill elites) and enemies in heavy cover/massed, theres also a belt equipment teleporter (but I prefer grenades and shields)
