Some may say Crusader with Grav-Gun because he is respectable second in AOE and DPS
I like Crusader 2H Melee w/greataxe mostly just for the feel and he can get decent DPS while also being practically unkillable, and melee is just manlier. ;)
Running a psycher with a mate on a crusader (melee) and the few times we get to play together he seems to be outdpsing me. We're only lvl 38 but still.
Yeah, well, a lot has to do with the build and gear. A well geared Psycher can't be beat in DPS.
A Crusader with a full AOE skill tree and a Grav-Gun can spam the AOE attack, but I don't think you can come quite to Psycher level.
Plus, consider that the way you build a psycher is actually slightly easier and more dependable. You get to essentially hand pick your attack bonuses while the Crusader is stuck rerolling for optimization.
That said, being essentially unkillable, as a well built Crusader can be, is a pretty nifty advantage.
I should also give the Assassin her due. She can be very good at both melee and ranged, but I'm an old guy and most of her strengths require more coordination than I have available. :)
I don't play Psyker for a general principles.
All ranged crusaders and assassins *were* weaker before 2.0, I hear they are still - but haven't really tried them yet. Though my 'trying' is something like 200h and I *did* it before 2.0 with snipers and stealth assassins (weren't worthy the bother), some ranged crusaders and psykers.
Both crusader and assassin can differ wildly regarding build - it's not uncommon to make char twice as tough by reallocating points and chosing ~same level equipment.
I hope that future brings more to the subclasses...
Right, I'm too old for proper aps as well but going "what's the simplest character to survive endgame with" seemed abit weak to me.

It was a bug BTW
Speed wise both psyker and assassin can fly around the map. A max 50% speed sader will turtle behind the others, and it would be nice if one day the devs could address that.
Haven't encounterd a psyker stronger than my sader in mp, but they can finish the map and go make a coffee before I'm half way thru.
I personally find the assassin the most engaging, the unnecessary constant re-casting of buffs kills the psyker class for me. Having to waste a perk to make the duration less annoying is just a kick in the balls.
Psyker is the farmers min-max class of choice. Can't really dispute it.
I think at this point it depends on the mission type and the goal you are trying to acheive. If the goal is full-clear then yeah, Psycher is the class for you. But if you are doing a speed run in a Void Campaign, there are only two missions where Psycher has clear advantage and that is "Purge" and "Siege" missions which require you to kill most of the mobs. On most of the rest I can finish about the same time and with considerably less stress.
