Ranged or melee
I've read that ranged combat was heavily underpowered compared to melee in the early stages of the game. Is this still correct or is ranged a viable playstyle?

If you want to clear maps in a timely fashion just go two handed melee. If you enjoy spending longer amounts of time then go with a gun but realize you are just handicapping yourself. the lone exception is the Grav gun but even that weapon is far below melee damage and when you get multiple elites/villains it's useless.

You're probably thinking Multi-Melta. The thing with it though is you really need to have the 'heat' tree unlocked to get the most use out of it which is probably one of the biggest pains in the butt in the game.

oops melta... just tried it.... bad its close range... and the aoe skill is too slow reload... so
im playing autogun now... still dont know what "skills" i need... i mean i see +heat +warp +blah blah so i focus on +ranged +all damage... it has a lot of weapon choices besides people complain about that too... only problem is a have a stealth suit...(yeap never used the skills of) since 10-20 lvls now the same... all new drops are -quality... thats how i figure out what to equip....
so im using autogun LMB RMB and some frag grenades... any suggest on build would be nice

Range is mostly vialbe till oyu hit the really high endgame, or want to play on extreme difficulties. However, beware, abotu half the ranged wepaons are just garbage at the moment.

So the autogun deals physical damage. +physical +crit trees should be your go-to's for skill points.

How does Double Heavy Flamer go? Cause 1 does great, but then overheats.

That's the benefit of Heat weapons... If one overheats put it away no matter how glowing red it is and use the secondary weapon untill it overhwats. In the meantime the primary weapon is cooled down without any trouble and you are good to go.

In my experience ranged is bad unless you are rolling with Gravgun and "surprise" Sniper for elites. Even then, it's very underpowered compared to melee. Lasgun isn't much good, same goes for plasma, bolter and auto are hilariously bad.

The thing about melee Assassin is that some of her weapons have movement skills which together with "adrenaline" teleporter allow you to skip the majority of the level and go straight for objectives so you are completing missions much faster than a ranged assassin. That is unless it's Purge which is an utterly garbage mission type anyway.

I use a heavy bolter then once they get closer I take out the hammer. Love it.
