I've never played an Assassin class, but does having the Guardsmen near you break stealth or cause any other issues? With the Crusader or Psyker, the Guardsmen are somewhat beneficial as distractions for annoying horde mobs you don't want to be bothered with, such as the Toxic Entities that the Reborn Marauders now spawn on death. (Why that was added is beyond me.)
As for upgrading Tarot cards, it appears that what they state on the Compendium is flat out wrong--unless I'm missing something, there's no credit cost to upgrading cards or way to choose which particular card you upgrade. There doesn't seem to be any difference between the normal and rare tarot card drops, nor does there seem to be any way to actually choose which cards upgrade with those consumable drops.
At this rate, I wonder if it's even possible to max out a particular card in less than a year of game hours.
I play Assassin off and on and no, Guardsman don't break your stealth, only enemies.
I don't see what the developers thought was so bad about allowing us to upgrade specific cards that we want, rather than having it be completely at random. Even if we had to use a random upgrading system, it would be nice if the points were somewhat balanced toward card usage. I often use the 'Martyrdom' card, but haven't gotten a single point toward unlocking it. Meanwhile, my first level 2 card was 'The Deceiver,' which I have never used as I don't have any characters anywhere near level 80.
One thing you can do is not upgrade the cards you don't like once they get to 10/10. Doing that channels the upgrade points into the cards that you do want to upgrade. Not ideal but it's something.
