"Event Horizon"
I read that "Warhammer 40k" was directly inspired by the movie "Event Horizon". Does anyone know if this is true, or not? Or did the "Warhammer 40k" universe already exist in some form, prior to the release of "Event Horizon"? I don't know much about the history of the franchise. In fact, my first experience with anything that had to do with "Warhammer" at all was when I was playing the "Warhammer Online" MMO. I actually miss that game. I wish they'd make a new "Warhammer" MMO. I loved the art style in that game. The "Green Skins" were awesome. I loved the look of the Orcs and the Goblins. "Warhammer" does Goblins right. Unlike the ones in "Warcraft". To me,those aren't Goblins. The Goblins in "Warhammer Online" actually reminded me of the Goblins in the old Tom Cruise movie, "Legend". If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it, if you like fantasy you'll like "Legend". The creatures in it are very cool. It has the best depiction of the Devil I've ever seen on film. And the Goblins and the "Swamp Witch" are just awesome.

40K has been around since the 80s (Rogue Trader).

Yeah, the sci-fi mocie event horizon wirh sam neil (thats the one u r talking about ?) Is from 1997. And has completely nothing to do with warhammer 40k. So if u really read that somewhere, u were fooled.
40k just transferred warhammer fantasy to a dark scifi-scenario...imho one which beats each and every other one (star wars, star treck, etc) by miles.

Ok. I thought 40k was around before that. Like I said, it just happened to have been something I read online. Figured I'd ask here to see if there was any truth to it. Thanks for the info. Also, how was I fooled? I never said I believed it. I came here to ask.

Ok. I searched through my history in an attempt to find where I heard this, and I was wrong about reading it somewhere. I heard it in this video about the movie. Here is a link to the part of the video where he mentions it. Like I said, I didn't just automatically believe it to be true. That's why I came here to ask the fans that know more about the series than I do.
I tried linking it right at the spot where he talks about Warhammer, but it didn't work. So I'll link the vid, and then you just gotta jump to about 11:08 play it from there. https://youtu.be/aR3hfLz5LhE?t=668
Skip to approx. 11:08

It's cool bro. I thank you for the info. =) And I agree. It's a pretty twisted movie. Kinda reminds me a bit of H.P. Lovecraft.

You're so cool. Can I be your friend? Please? I'll even give you the hugs that your mommy never did.

Event Horizon did inspire a part of 40k - one artist working on 40k liked the design of the warp drive so much it's shown up in 40k art as the default look for what Warp Engines can look like.

Incidentally Event Horizon also works perfectly as a 40k movie - a prequel set during the time Humans are just inventing Warp travel and haven't figured out they need Gellar Fields yet.

Well, thats a point.

It’s actually the other way around. The writers of Event Horizon were big fans of and were heavily influenced by 40K. Some 40K fans consider Event Horizon an unofficial 40K prequel. It could be that is what you read about?

How was I "fooled"? I never said that I believed it. I came here to find out if it was true. Explain to me how simply reading the info "fooled" me.

Just out of curiosity, why did you just reply to a comment you've already replied to 1,5 years ago and even got an satisfying (or so it seems) answer to?
