Execute

The button doesn't do anything but a friend claims to have done it to a sentinel. How do you do it?

Apparently its a random thing, it will pop up with an icon and you press x to execute but after 71 missions i have never seen it.
Pretty sure you need a melee weapon for it but i have tried with Axe/Pistol and Chainsword/Shield and still cant get it to go off.
The Journal entry says yuou need a skill but I cant find one that says "allows executions".

If someone else could let us know what were doing wrong that would be awesome!

I executed one on my third mission and afaik I've executed every superbig monster (sentinels, dreadnaughts) since. I just melee them to death with left click. I didn't unlock anything to be able to do it.

Most execution works with only crusader 2handed sword. At least for srentinel, and hellbrute, im 100% sure. Just last hit them in melee.

u need use execution skill tree, then u will have chance to execute enemy and have bonuses from it

so, with a 2 handed axe equipped i automatically execute all the big things, no button press required, no skills required, just smack them with the axe.
Pretty sure this is not working as intended.

My friend does it and it breaks the enemy

I've executed without the skill. Also with chainsword/shield and greatsword.

I feel like I should revisit this. Been trying for a few days now and I can't get it to happen on smaller enemies. I know I'm at only 6% execution chance but dang, I've killed thousands of enemies at this point.

Pretty sure it doesn't work at all outside of random executions on large enemies.

As far as I can tell, ANY melee weapon works. Some just look weird.

It is almost all of my melee kills on elites with my critbuild assassin, and next to none of my melee kills with anything else.

Weapons I know work:
Assassin Power Sword
Arc Blade
Death Cult Blade
Power Sword (looks wacky with suppression shield, fine with storm)

Executions work on regular enemies, but chance too low. It Happened 6 times in 60 hours with axe/shield.
