Somebody really needs to tell Koei Tecmo...
"Atelier" is pronounced like "AT-l-yey". It's a real word. This "at-LEE-er" business needs to stop.

Otherwise, it's a shame to hear people are having technical issues, as it's running at a smooth 60 fps for me.

Loanwords aren't necessarily pronounced the exact same way they are in their language of origination, yanno?
Minneyar Feb 10, 2017 @ 4:58am
Not necessarily, but in this case it is. That pronunciation is straight out of the dictionary.

Yay, I'm not familiar with the word so I didn't know until you brought it to my attention. It's a French word that's why it's pronounced that way.

I don't get it, who pronounces atelier as AT-EL-YEY? Thats weird.
Bowsette Feb 10, 2017 @ 5:57am
It is indeed spelled アトリエ, which is as close as possible for a Japanese to spell it the French way, not the English/American way.
lol Feb 10, 2017 @ 5:59am

Nitpicking at it's best. :D
The brazilian portuguese wrong, but most commom, pronunciation is "a tê li er" (it's very commom read like is writed), but the correct is "a tê li ê" (with a french accent). Japanese pronunciation is wrong too, it's "a to ri ê" (アトリエ).

Indeed :p

"While we're waiting for an official patch about CPU usage, let's talk about the correct and definitive way to say that one word."

I kind of understand OP's complaint, though. It's irky to hear a word mispronounced or pronounced differently from what you're used to.

Actually there's nothing wrong on this post. It really helps giving a correct pronunciation of the word.

I am only kidding. I know the OP is right. I am shuddering every time, watching US movies, there the producers are too cheap to actually pay for people, who are able to speak proper german.

Even Microsoft, in the successor game of "Wing Commander", don't know it's name, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up big time. In the german synchronsation all "german" speakers were native americans.
That sounds for us germans, as if they were all talking with one or two potatoes in their mouth, not being able to speak "hard" enough. :D

Must be equally disturbing if we try to speak english, though. :D

nah
Arnold Schwarzenegger wasn't allowed to dub over his own voice in the German version of Terminator, because his Austrian accent "wasn't tough enough"

although i'm not sure what my comment has to do with anything but i think it is slightly relevant

I suggest to prounounce it in French as Sophie does on the title screen :
A - TE - LI - é

By the way an atelier in french is called a workshop in english (so the potion workshop).
