there's no official controller support right now.
While you may be able to use third party software to map buttons to your controller, it's very likely some stuff will just straight up not work.

to say the same thing about RTS games, MMOs, and many other things.

RTS games can be played on a controller just no way near being as good as a mouse, with KB shortcuts. Just like Shooters are

No official controller support yet, and the devs have not committed to adding it in the future. But if you search the forum there are many posts from people on ways to play it with a controller
