"it's already playable, release it now and add crossplay later!"

sales. People on Steam who want to play with their friends will see "Oh, it's singleplayer only for now, but I wanted to play it with my friends. Nah, off my wishlist."

There is no steam friends code. You have someone on your list or you dont. If they are you can invite them. Thats all there is to it. You make this more complicated than it has to be really
