If you (or someone) is interested, I have this code (using AWS CDK) that I forked and use for a hosting my own personal server (works with 1.0). But I wouldn't recommend using it if you don't know AWS https://github.com/ThomasVictoria/satisfactory-server-aws
Can't be that bad. I think the OP meant renting a hosted server. It can't be worse than signing up for Dropbox or something?
And running your own Windows DS at home is easy, unless you have to install the OS from scratch.
If the PC is ready then it literally takes minutes if you know what you're doing and maybe half an hour if you need to lookup instructions. Install Steam, install DS from Steam, open ports in the router if you want to invite others, not needed if it's just local, then connect to it from your game, that's all, literally a matter of minutes. The server itself is zero-config and non-interactive unless you want to change the default number of players or the default number/frequency of saves. So just run it like any Steam game.
The only semi-tricky part for a non-savvy person is to set a static IP address for the server, this is likely the only roadblock.
You can pay jeff (AWS),
you can rent a dedicated server by a hosting company, but keep in mind that these things do cost a lil bit.. like a somewhat decent server comes for around 50/60 usd/month and only goes up from there. If you want a managed server (so your host does the server config for you and maintains the server) that can easily go from 200+/month.
If you like gambling, you could try to get a vserver (lots cheaper but i never experienced any of these as somewhat reliable).
There is just many ways to go about hosting. Like you could even just setup a pc at home with a windows system .. that would get you going the fastest but you do want to have a decent internet connection here + also would need to look into IP management if you do not have a static ip address (dynamic dns being the keyword here).
I personally run a rented dedicated server which i manage by myself, i do have a rather easy interface to get the initial server install done quick and easy and from there is mostly just following the guide.
The wiki for self hosting here is i'd say really good. But that does come from a perspective of at least knowing my basics on console based linux, then again, its mostly just following the guide.

Cannot really recommend a specific OS for hosting here, a lot is simply personal preference, just keep in mind that any microsoft based OS will make heavy dents on the pricing as well, as OS licences also go for like 200/month alone .. just for the OS.
I'd say if you really are new to all of this, chances are you will spend more like 3hrs+
There's probably no easy 1click hosting solution, unless you want to pay the amount of a dedicated server for simply just getting a bad vserver alone.
But not 200 USD per month tho 💀
I also have coding experience, including on Linux, but that's precisely the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I don't want to deal with
