Find your steam install location, go to the folder above (just an example)
Exit steam
Delete the downloading folder (it's become corrupted)
Play the game.
"Delete" means you need to manually navigate to a specific folder/file, and use the "del" button on the keyboard, or right-click with the mouse and select "delete", or by using the command line.
"Uninstall" means you properly (and more completely) remove the program from the system (files, folders, settings, register nodes), and either let a launcher or a program (like Steam or geekuninstaller) do it for you, or by using the one that comes with the OS, in this case Windows.
But yes, Steam is the problem here and this can happen from time to time.
Go to the Start Button
type the word: file
hit enter key on keyboard
This file explorer window has a bunch of things on the left
you will have to navigate (click on the appropriate ones) to find where you installed STEAM.
The default location is
C:\Program Files\Steam
Go to: Steam\steamapps\downloading
Using your mouse, select everything in that folder (the right side of the window) drag your mouse with the left button down across all the items in that folder.
OR press the following keys at the same time: CTRL-A
That is Select All in computers.
Now that everything is highlighted in a blue color or light gray color (depends on your system settings light or dark mode).
Press the DEL key on your keyboard or right click on the highlighted items and select DELETE.
The reason your install wont work is because the steam downloads cache is corrupted. Deleting it will fix your problem.
YOU NEVER WANT TO UNINSTALL STEAM. You will destroy many of your saves and all your screenshots if you do that.
didnt work either, i tried messaging the support team for satisfactory and they said it was a steam issue. but everything ive tried doesnt seem to fix the issue. ill order another hard drive and see if i can transfer my game to that one and get it to work. but its odd that it was working 1 minute then the next day it just broke. makes no sense. thanks for the help though.
1. We can trick Steam into thinking the game isn't installed so you have to start over from scratch.
2. Satisfactory might not be completely uninstalled, we should clear out all the files.
3. We can manually uninstall Steam the proper way so you don't lose anything and then make steam to install again and fix its corrupted files.
Option #1:
Exit Steam.
Open explorer.exe again (file explorer - yellow folder icon on your task bar)
go to your steam install location
default is C:\Program Files\Steam
go into the steamapps folder
find the file called: appmanifest_526870.acf
Delete it (right click on it and select delete), confirm you want to delete it.
Start Steam, go to Satisfactory and click the install button. It should start downloading it properly.
Option #2:
Exit Steam.
Clear out the downloads cache again as in previous post.
Open explorer.exe again
go to your steam install location
default is C:\Program Files\Steam
Go into steamapps folder then to the common folder
If the Satisfactory folder exists, delete it (right click on it, select delete)
Now, in the address bar type: %localappdata%\FactoryGame
If you want to back up the saves, if you have any, copy and paste the Saved folder anywhere else you want. You can put the saves back later.
Select everything in the FactoryGame folder and delete it (CTRL-A, press DEL key OR right click on each and select delete).
Start Steam and reinstall the game.
Option 3 requires deleting a lot of files and you want to be careful not to select the wrong ones, we'll do that if option 1&2 doesn't work.
im currently downloading factory to a different hard drive and seeing if that works. sorry for the late reply. if not ill try the steps you have there.
