The more dense the fog, the worse it gets. It goes away if I disable the fog. This indeed does not seem to be related to DLSS or Frame Generation, like the ghosting/flickering belts were. The only way I know to solve it is to disable the fog.
I suspected this was a GSYNC issue, but I disabled GSYNC and it didn't help. I also tried limiting my FPS and no difference either. It seems to be clearly related to the fog as it instantly goes away if I type the console command to turn the fog off.
That's why I have been asking for a setting to control the density and distance of the fog as disabling it entirely makes the distant views very ugly, world seams, etc.
Anyways, this is the first time I ever had this glitch with flicker/video related to the entirety of the sky. (aside aforementioned wall flicker, occasionally).
Again, thank you! On it.
r.fog off
or:
r.fog 0
then to tun it back on:
r.fog 1
If you want the setting to stick so you don't have to type it every time, edit this file with a text editor:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\Config\Windows\Engine.ini
add this to the end of the file:
[SystemSettings]
r.Fog=0
BTW, maybe this is a different bug. Because for me it's not just the sky, the entire scene flickers depending on the density of the fog. They seem to have at least lowered the density of the fog, it was excessive before.
Thanks! Does it make a big difference in visual quality? I think postprocessing is for things like fog and smoke so that would make sense. I'm gonna try the next time I play the game.
I remembered that I had similar issues with the early access version of the game and that disabling ALL frame cap and VSync settings inside the game and instead use the graphics driver settings via NVidia control panel helped before and this again fixed all flickering issues this time! No need to change anything related to DLSS, fog, shadow or AA at all.
Just go to NV cp, add the game with custom settings and set foreground max fps to e.g. 60fps and background fps to 30fps (if you "tab" out of the game or the game runs in background for other reasons) and restart the game.
I run the game at ultra settings for everything, DLSS at "balanced", graphics card consumes around 140-150 watts, no flickering, no heat, no noise and graphics look beautiful.
*your wattage may vary as I undervolt my 3070ti heavily and power measuring on NVidia cards does not seem to be very accurate
I already knew about the VSYNC thing and FPS caps. So I already was doing what you described and it was still flickering. I have a feeling this is related to fog because disabling fog in the console instantly gets rid of any flickering.
However, lowering Post Processing seems to help.
So maybe there are few reasons for this flickering.
