Frame drops since DLSS introduction
Hello, I've had the problem in Update 8 Experimental for a while that I have massive frame drops from 120 to less than 20fps. I only have to leave the base for a short time, but it doesn't take long before I have the low fps again. But this has only been the case for about 2 weeks. More specifically, it came when DLSS was introduced. Does anyone have the same problems or has a solution?

1) Your system specs would be helpful.
2) Have you verified your game files?
3) Does this happen when DLSS is off?
4) Does the FPS stay at 20fps forcing you to restart the game or does it go back up after a few seconds after returning to your base?

I'm running on a AMD 5800x and Evga 3080 at 3440x1440 with everything at ultra with DLSS set to quality.

I am not experiencing any such issues.

If this was before today's 0.8.1.3 patch, try it again.
To answer Omega's list for my case:
1) i9-12900k, 16 GB Ram, 3080 ti, all settings on low.
2) yes
3) yes, as far as I could tell.
4) yes it stays that way until a save/load or just load.

In my factory would drop from 120 fps where I have the frame limiter set to 25 after a minute or two, even with all graphics settings set to low with low CPU/GPU utilization and stay there until I saved and reloaded . Now it is back to normal, at least for the small session I had, about 15 minutes I couldn't get cause a permanent fps loss in the same area, even with everything back on ultra and DLSS on, new lumen/GI on.

My guess is it was caused by this entry in the change log, "Fixed an issue where a bug with creature spawners would lead to performance losses".

My System Specs are:

AMD Ryzen 9 7950x
32GB DDR5 6000MHz G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo
MSI RTX4080 Suprime X
MSI MPG Artymis 343CQRDE 3440x1440 165Hz

I set everything to max.
When I go out of the game and then back in, I briefly get 110-120fps again and then they drop back down to under 20fps.
I now have DLSS off and now it remains stable at 110-120fps

I can't think of anything. Since update 8 came out, things have been butter smooth for me with everything maxed out with dlss on quality and your system is better then mine.

I thought perhaps you had a weak CPU or video card causing a bottleneck. I'm guessing you have no issue with DLSS in other games?

It almost seems like a vsync issue but I'm guessing your using gsync since its a 165hz monitor which should prevent such issues.

If I was in your shoes, I would probably try doing a fresh install of the latest NVIDIA drivers after removing the current ones.

Does changing from full screen to windowed full screen or vice versa change anything? Does the DLSS preset settings make any difference?

Something else to check, when the game drops to 20fps, is your 4080 still running at max speed with near to 100% usage?

yes i have no problems with DLSS in other games and yes it makes no difference if i have full screen or window full screen enabled. I also have VSYNC on.

I would have to use MSI Afterburner to see if the card is at 100% utilization when the frame drops to 20fps, which I think should be unlikely. But I'll test it.

I just reinstalled the driver.

Windows task manager can draw realtime graph of the utilization.

It's a little difficult with just one monitor

Since the OP only has one monitor, they would need to alt tab out of the game and that might cause the driver to set the card back to 2D speeds.

I did say it draws a graph. You can also set update frequency to slow so you have time to see what happened within last minute before you alt tabbed. You can also play in windowed or borderless fullscreen mode so the window switching doesn't cause nasty resolution changes.
