Correct settings to keep game from crashing??
Is there anything else I can do besides set the graphics and performance settings to low to keep my game from crashing?

Depends on why it's crashing. If setting everything to low stops the crashes, then you're probably just overloading your hardware when you start to turn graphics settings up. You can play around with renderers. DirectX 11/12 or Vulkan. Maybe one will run smoother than the others for you.

Updating video card and other drivers can help with stability. Otherwise, maybe time to upgrade.

Experimental or main branch? Mods? Any error messages? System specs? Are you experiencing issues outside of the game itself?

The solution you are seeking is entirely dependent on the cause of the crashing: bugs within the game itself, outdated drivers, outdated mods, mod conflicts, a corrupt installation or save file, GPU/CPU overheating, hard drive or RAM failure, or any number of other things can cause the game to crash. In my experience, however, the individual graphics and performance settings within the game are rarely a solution to crashing unless your drivers are outdated or your system specs don't meet the minimum requirements.

I’m on experimental. No mods. No error messages. It just freezes up for a few seconds and then drops me from game. No issues outside this game. Here are my specs:

Windows 10; 64 bit
Processor: Intel® Core™M i7-6700K CPU @
4.00ghz (8 CPUs), '4.0GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM (16GB)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
Approx. Total Memory: 11159 MB (10.89GB)
VRAM: 2988 MB (2.9GB)
Shared Memory: 8171 MB (7.9GB)
Disk 1 (C:) is an SSD

Your 3 gigs of Vram is not enough to play on anything much past medium to low settings. As it is right now experimental is pulling alot of vram and not using it very efficiently.

Don't forget to also dust out the radiator fins. Heat frequently causes mystery chop.

3GB of VRAM is not enough and the 1060 is not fast enough anymore
I have a 1060 6GB and the game is unplayable (freezes, micro-stutter, low FPS, crashes)

You can try lowering every setting to their minimum, lower the resolution and try DX vs. Vulkan

your running a quad core, Hyper threaded CPU from 2015, at what will be a low DDR4 speed, on a GTX 1060 3GB, one of the worst cards of Nvidia's 10xx series.
Decent cooling and you can get your CPU to 4.2Ghz min, I had mine running at 4.8Ghz all core, but even that won't help uplifting IPC enough for you to get a decent gaming experience from any cpu bound game (like satisfactory) made after 2020 and that GPU has always been a joke.
you need a better rig.

Any suggestions for specs I should get now for a new computer (or new upgrades)?

As much Vram on the card as possible.

You want to skip Nvidia cards because they've been minimixing Vram while the developers recently been using a lot of Vram

So, If I purchase a much better graphics card, will it be compatible with all my other existing specs?

It's tricky, depends on your motherboard whether it can accept upgrades that substantial. If you upgraded both CPU and GPU as much as the mb can handle then it may be fine. There's a whole system of interlocking conditionals.

Bottom line if you don't want to figure it all out yourself, drop $1,200 on a new PC. Prebuilt are pretty decent nowadays and it'll (probably) work well together. And you'd have spent $800 anyway maximizing current rig.

*my prices may be wrong but they're wrong by the same percentage
