media controls on keyboard blocked by game?

I noticed then when I began playing update 6 around decenember. I hant played the game since maybe feb of 2022 I am pretty sure volume controls worked fine then but I could be wrong.

anyhow what I see is that once I launch the game I am unable to use volume and mute buttons on the keyboard to control volume even when I alt alb out of the game. The problem occurs anytime the game is running for the first time after a reboot and even seems to block the steam overlay.
now if I quit the game, open anything else like a browser then come back to the game I have a 50/50 chance it will work as intended with steam overlay and my volume control keys working. Its like satisfactory is taking over keys it doesnt need and not allowing them to pass through to windows or steam overlays.

Has anyone else seen this? I play in windowed mode where I can see the title bar and task bar. Its bit odd and annoying but at least I can click on the task bar to adjust volume from there if needed so its not a huge issue just a minor thorn I have been contemplating these past 2.5 months.

FWIW, I have a Logitech KB and my volume knob and mute button are working fine.

it works fine for me if I quit the game and reload it. but the first time I load it any keyboard thing that should go outside the game is blocked including all the steam overlay keybinds.
for instance when its doing this I cant even take screenshots.

its not the keyboard its the game. its blocking keys from getting to anything outside of the game including the steam overlay shortcuts. the media controls are just the things things I noticed first but its capturing every keypress even keys that should pass through the game on to steam or something in windows.

checked a few things...the only key its letting through it the start menu key. all steam shortcuts are being blocked as well as the media keys and every custom mouse assignment not used by the game as well as custom keyboard shortcuts not used by the game. IT used to be that these keys the game doesnt have bindings for would get passed on to the steam client or windows but it only does that if I start the game, quit the game, then open anything else before starting the game a second time.

I tried to open something else first then start the game but that still creates the issue. Also starting the game then quitting the game then starting it again also doesnt solve it. I literally have to open something like a browser after quitting the game then reopening the game and then it works.

I know this seems confusing but this is what I can figure out after months of messing with it. I dont know why the game is blocking steam shortcuts and other things from getting through. I should check the parameters I am starting the game with. Anyhow none of this seems to be an issue with any other steam or non-steam game so far. I checked about 6 games in total.

I dont know its not a big deal. At least I finally identified one way to work around and solve the problem even if its the weirdest thing I have seen.

The game is NOT blocking keyboard inputs, the game is NOT blocking the steam overlay hotkey. The problem is just on your end homie, you can try verifying your game files and uninstalling any mods.

This happens without mods I know that not the issue. I just finished verifying the game files but the strange issue still occurs. I can live without my media keys as I just clock on the task bar and do it there. but when I need to make a screenshot in steam its just annoying to have to restart the game once or twice before it will work.
The problem might be steam but it only seems to affect satisfactory for some reason. This is why I thought maybe I had some errant setting somewhere in either steam settings for the game or the same itself

Maybe try reinstalling epic and go through the epic settings

its probably due to epic and steam. I have a really weird setup for satisfactory as I bought it on epic but I linked it to the steam launcher as a non-steam game so the overlay would work and other steam features would be connected. And since this only affects satisfactory and satisfactory is the only game I have in this convoluted setup I think its safe to say this is an issue related to the way I have this setup.
Anyhow I know how to avoid the issue. it just requires I start the game, kill the game, open random other program, then start the game.

I was hoping others had the same issue and it was related to the setting. I might be able to find a solution if I can get to the bottom of how the steam overlay works and the difference between steam and epic versions of the game.

100% this is a recurring issue with epic games, likely being done intentionally. just searching "steam overlay blocked by epic games" will return an echo chamber. I recommend contacting Epic support and letting them know about your problem, expect them to defect blame back to steam.
