Need a PC wizard. 1080ti and crashing on medium settings
I have no idea why but my pc cannot handle this game. it lasts about 2 minutes before it shuts off, I've had speccy open while its been running and all the temps are fine, nothing goes above 68c which is the GPU.

Heres my specs:
CPU: i5 8600k (3.6ghz)
GPU: EVGA 1080ti FTW
RAM: RGB Corsair Vengence 16GB 3600mhz
Storage: 1 HDD, 1 M.2 drive
PSU: Corsair RM600w

All help is appreciated :)

Are you getting any error message when it crashes?
Is it just the game crashing or is your PC crashing with it?
When was the last time you updated your GPU drivers and made a clean install of your GPU drivers (i.e. uninstalling the previous driver before installing the new one)?

I get the same "D3D device being lost" error message, reinstalled the game, verified files, updated drivers and still nothing, whats weird though is that when it keeps crashing and I keep opening it, it eventually lets me play for a long period of time before crashing again. its really strange. I haven't clean installed my GPU driver in a while because its a bit of a headache ahaha, if you reckon that will do the trick I can give it a go.
You should absolutely give the clean install of the GPU driver a go.

Btw. you can even select the clean install when you update your GPU driver. Click on "custom install" and there you should tick the box that states that it makes a clean installation.
This link got some nice steps u could take a look at.
Hopefully one of these solves your problem.

I have myself also a 1080ti but never get a crash with this message d3d device being lost.
Good luck! :selike:

Been on that website already ahaha. Ive just had afterburner open to view gpu usage and when it crashed it went to 100% usage, before that it was around 70%, reckon its a GPU issue?

I didnt know that about the custom install! i'll give that a go, I'll let you know if it fixes my issue :)

Thats sorted it, thank you!
Glad it worked. Have fun!

That's bad. Looking up your GPU I see hat it is factory ovcerclocked. Might be worth checking if you still experince the crash if you downclock (not undervolt) it to the stock clock rates stated here:
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-1080-ti.c2877
Some games have issues with overclocked GPUs.
However if that doesn't help either then you need to stresstest your GPU. Because in the worst case your GPU is starting to fail which means a replacement would then be in order.

Repect my man, I will downclock and see if thats works if not, stress test it is!
I've been using a 1080ti since I got the game a couple of years ago. I started with high level graphics, and over time I've had to reduce them to medium or low for some things to maintain the performance level.

I'm running an i7-4770K CPU, and AFAIK the game is still CPU-intensive more than GPU intensive.

"The latest drivers" is not always the right answer. Most times new drivers introduce new bugs with older games, or games not using the new features of the new driver.

Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is pretty much your best, safest, and most thorough driver removal option. Some of these others (that promise to keep all your drivers updated) rely on hidden adware and introduce malware (my Dad runs these damn apps because he believes the hype and I'm always cleaning his machine because of it).

DDU does one thing, and it does it very well.

The simple fact is you should never update any driver unless the one you have is buggy, or the new one addresses the specific issues you're having, or introduces a feature you simply cannot live without. "If it isn't broken, don't fix it" always applies.

Crank your CPU and case fans to the max and ignore the noise, the game should run much more stable. Take the side cover off if you have to, to help out even more.

I have an 1080 Ti and an i7-4790K, so almost identical systems.

I run with the graphics at Ultra and everything on except motion blur. At the start, the game is GPU bound but still runs faster than my monitor's 60 Hz refresh rate. Once the factory grows large enough, the game becomes CPU bound and slows down below 60 fps.

"The latest drivers" is not always the right answer. Most times new drivers introduce new bugs with older games, or games not using the new features of the new driver.
If the latest driver is not better for every supported GPU, that's known as a regression and those are extremely rare with nVidia. AMD/ATI isn't as careful about testing their drivers, but nVidia is quite thorough about benchmarking older games with their driver updates to make sure that they don't reduce performance.

nVidia isn't perfect so they will release hotfix drivers every once in a while if there is a significant regression or bug with their latest driver update, but I've only been affected by that maybe twice since 2017.

The simple fact is you should never update any driver unless the one you have is buggy, or the new one addresses the specific issues you're having, or introduces a feature you simply cannot live without. "If it isn't broken, don't fix it" always applies.
This advice is fine if you are talking about a physical machine.

This advice is misguided when it comes to software, because older software often contains known security issues which get fixed by updates.

Adjusting the fan curves can be helpful.

Removing the side cover only helps if your case fans are inadequate. Normally the CPU, GPU, and PSU get cooled more effectively with the case closed and acting as a wind tunnel between front intake fans and rear exhaust fans.

If you do it right, your front intake fans slightly over-pressurize the case to reduce the ingress of dust. Obviously, running with the side cover off results in the system being exposed to dust and it also means more noise.
