Plugin "ImgMedia" failded

after new update was dowloaded today I have got the error Plugin "ImgMedia" failded and I cannot run the game anymore. Any ideas how to fix that?

You're fighting windmills and you're gonna lose. It's even worse with macOS where obsolescence is handed down hard by Apple while the faithful rejoice, cheer and happily empty their wallets for the latest, shiniest Apple hardware. I can still run 15 yo Windows apps on Windows 11, and yes you can run Windows 11 on old, unsupported hardware, try that on a Mac. I run Windows 11 on 14 yo Macbook Pro with 3rd gen Intel CPU that can no longer run the last three or four versions of macOS but Windows 11 runs fine on it, except for Bluetooth.

This is how it works. It's worked like this for a long time and is not going to change. So, upgrade to the latest OS or switch to Linux. No amount of complaining will help and you will just put yourself in disadvantage by sticking to old OS.

And if you're complaining so hard about telemetry in Windows 11 I hope you don't own any mobile with Android or iOS because that is where the real tracking and spying is happening. Windows 11 is nothing compared to Android and iOS.

You won't change this so either go with the flow or switch to Linux.

@Pepe & Sub-Zero: my 5c: TBH I think that's just how marketing works nowadays. You need to convince people that the old one is bad and the new one is good, because otherwise your new things won't sell. We arrived at times when a satisfied customer is a bad customer, because digital goods are imperishable by themselves, so they could be used indefinitely without an upgrade. While there are obvious reasons for upgrading (supporting new hardware or critical code infrastructure/kernel rewrites e.g.), Linux/Unix ecosystem is a best showcase that it doesn't need the rapid obsoletization model M$ is using lately. FWIW, it's not even a problem with the support model - I mean, while we were always told "newer is better", W95 had 5/6 years of support (basic/extended), W98 had 4/8, XP got 8/18, 7 got 6/15, and 10 got 10/17. That might be contrary to the gut feeling, but at the same time you had almost full binary compatibility, basically the same OS look&feel and core components, the same design philosophy and very easy migration between 95 and 98 (up to ME), so you had about 11 years of total support, and that was when hardware was really evolving very rapidly. XP and 7, while based on NT kernel, were also relatively similar, so you could switch with relatively little effort - I still use the native "Classic Windows Theme" on Windows 7, so one might say that that bare-yet-resource-light L&F (which came with W95 IIRC) got a total of almost 20 years of support (counting the exceptional support for Win7). And, that, as well, was when both hardware specs and composition changed very quickly. Nowadays however, we had no real code reason for Windows 10 to exist in the first place (e.g. all the Direct3D extensions from newer DirectXs are _relatively_ easy to port, which is showcased by both Vulkan and Proton, with other examples like ANGLE or DX12onW7), and similarly no reason for Windows 11 to enter the scene after that... other than marketing and wanting to earn more $$ by M$. That's understandable by itself - however spreading the "YOUR SYSTEM IS OBSOLETE UPGRADE OR YOU'LL DIE YOU FILTHY MORON HAHAHA STILL USING YOUR OLD SYSTEM AND STILL DRIVING AN OLD CAR BUY A TESLA AND MAC AND WINDOWS 11" FUD is actively harmful not only because it makes no sense, but IMVHO first and foremost because many people really believe that because they don't know otherwise and don't have the capacity to do a reality check, and prefer thus are e.g. running virtual machines to run old software with lots of problems along the way instead of simply having good "old" hardware to run good "old" software :)

Fun facts: Damn Small Linux still actively supports 486-compatible hardware as of 2024, and Linux kernel 5.x can be ran on 486 with a bit of tweaking (guy from reddit done it AFAIK). I was able to get almost hardware coverage on Win7 for Comet Lake i3-10xxx on a Z490 mobo etc. (including USB 3.x support) by a bit of fiddling with the drivers, even though no official support for Win7 was available for my model at all because it was released after W7 EOL.

no. Why "switch"? This statement is non sequitur and makes no rational sense. You provided no reason other than appealing to emotions of tiredness and dissatisfaction. That's not a good engineering reason.

I've been using Linux for about 25 years, maybe a bit longer. There is no "switch". I can use Linux, Win7, WinXP and Win10 at the same time, with all of them available as portable installs on removable media - where's the problem you see with that? My box supports everything from XP up to 11 ATM, so I don't even need to virtualize them... but yeah, I'm lazy, my XP is only a VM ATM, I'd have to buy a USB-C-to-something adapter to have it natively and I don't really need anything from XP 99.99% of the time - but I have a 16-bit OTVDM and Win10-compatibility layer installed on Win7, in my defense :D

What? I don't see a problem, run whatever you want, I run Windows 11 on desktop and couple of Ubuntu servers and I'm fine. It is, because complaining about anything is pointless by definition and serves only emotional value. Doing things to change things has point, nothing else has. That's quite obvious. Yet not all things have to have a point to have tangible value, because human life is not a math or engineering problem, but an act of will.
This thread wasn't initially about complaining, but about fixing or sidestepping a problem. It has achieved that, for a time.

Please don't tell other people what to do, I already asked you for that and provided a direct reason.

Also, you approach, as a person not being a stakeholder, a thread where people are, incidentally, complaining about the situation and discussing it, and are obviously doing that just because first they had actual countermeasures and now they don't - so what's your point in entering the discussion? Do you have anything to add, or are you here just to stroke your ego by telling other people that you think they are doing things that you consider pointless?

Fun fact by the way: there is actually a company that still offers 3rd-party support for Win7 AFAIK, including software ports and security updates. Go figure. You're barking at a wrong tree here, instead I suggest to e.g. go write to that company (it's called "0patch" I believe) that what they are doing to earn money is pointless, that their business model is broken, that it's impossible to change reality and that you consider both them and their customers inane. Feel free to quote this thread to them as a proof that you're right.

It's also a hobby, but it's not "just a hobby". If you have a customer base that's using XP/7, you need XP/7 to diagnose, troubleshoot or effectively develop and test software. Same applies to working with legacy software that no longer receives updates and is for any reason incompatible with newer OSes. They are also a lot faster and have a lot lower CPU/mem/space footprint, so they work better if your software and hardware also matches them. There are also other reasons that apply to me personally, but honestly I think the above reasons should be enough by themselves.
