[update 5 experimental] Forced epic connection issues
Hotfix for Hotfix™ has fixed multiplayer issues for me now
thanks for the fast patch, my swedish neighbours :D!

>>old post <<
Hi, i got forced to create an epic account otherwise i would not be able to play multiplayer;
however during the second launch of the game i got a message saying "your epic account is incompatible with your curently logged in-steam account"

Issue : Getting forced to create an epic account even though i own the game on steam
second issue : despite creating an account on epic, i lost all my rights to multiplayer on second launch

more explanation as to why i lost my rights to multiplayer:
When booting the game, the message saying "logging in to epic" will keep running until the counter hits 0. after that, a new textbox saying "you will continue in offline mode" because i don't have an epic account.

After creating the epic account, i played fine with a friend until we decided to take a break.

second boot : Game decides to tell me that my epic account is incompatible with steam, and directs me to press "okay" assuring me that crossplay is possible between steam and epic;
this however is false as when i load up the save, i cannot paste my session ID nor invite my steam friends

Treating my session which worked fine earlier into an singleplayer experience.

Edit :
the problem has been resolved for me, updated the post to provide more info
Edit 2 : The problem WAS resolved when i tried yesterday to host a game, however, it has returned!
I am now stuck with "failed to create an online session" when trying to host, despite me having now connected to both EPIC and STEAM
Please take a look when you can, snutt ! i will provide screenshots if i knew how to do it in this format.

Hey, you're not forced to create an EPIC account to play multiplayer in Satisfactory. The link to an EPIC account is only there if you want to be able to see your EPIC friends lists in the in-game friends list and that's an opt-in the first time you boot up the game.

Currently there's a bug in the game for some people where the game will ask for epic account permissions every time you boot up the game. That's not intentional, we're currently looking into that issue.

prolly just a minor bug they have right now...when update 5 goes live what your experencing wont be there until then i'd suggest go rent a dedicated server an try it that way g portal has a cheap price for a 15 slot one.

So much hostility! When I saw it I immediately assumed it was an oversight. It's trying to connect to Steam and Epic. Epic fails, so it's stuck in a loop trying to resolve that. The simple answer is that it's unintentionally behavior to expect everyone to have both accounts, especially since there haven't been any announcements (that I've seen) about this new requirement.

It's an experimental build. First assumption should always be "it's a bug" until we hear differently. If you aren't OK with bugs and rough patches and weird stuff happening, you shouldn't be running an experimental build. That's why it's opt-in.

I just close the browser windows. I took the time to actually sync an Epic account, and it still happened on my next launch, so the settings didn't stick. Sounds like it's a common issue, and is probably a bug.

Pretty clearly bugged out behavior. Patience padawan. There will be patches. That's the whole point of experimental releases.

while this is true and is reasonable for the most part, you are giving too much credit to the devs for hyping this update up so much only to not be able to play it online at launch of the update 5

Ok I have a somewhat fix, that doesn't seem to work every time but usually does. I go into my epic account and to to the connections. I disconnect steam link, and then log out of epic. Then I start start Satisfactory. Then when it asks to log into epic, I scroll down to click log in with my steam account. Then you need to keep checking your browser for new tabs that have you link to steam again, and then another couple to allow you to connect to steam.

Multiplayer is through EOS (Epic Online Service). Many games have it nowadays, even if they released on Steam (like Killing Floor 2, Remnants of the Ashes, ...). It would not be such a problem if EOS would not collect data it does not need (like machine name, total number of Steam friends and such stuff) and (at least regarding other games) if it would be included in the EULA (also what data gets collected).
"It does not need" in comparison to what it does: EOS connects two or more people via the "Online Service", so it just needs an ID (the SteamID) and the IP, no hardware data, steam data or other stuff.
"Online privacy" is a trendy fad, Epic Games have stated several times about the data collection and the friends thing is simply to sync friends on the Epic client. If you are so up-tight with data collection you should not be using Microsoft Windows FULL STOP. This operating system has telemetry built in that sends everything you do to Microsoft, including websites you visit and files you open.

You guys are throwing tantrums over a simple bug that's gonna get fixed by the developer very soon. The guy that says he is gonna refund the game made me laugh, what's the mental age of the steam user base? 12?

The real issue with Epic Games client and Steam is that it brought to the surface a huge issue with emotional attachment to a gaming client, despite the fact that Steam is a monopoly and has utterly outrageous margins on each game sale.

what bull this post is. I guess you have a mental age of 11?

Data collection is a hot topic throughout tech so don't go and misunderstand why that is with some stupid comments.

Emotional attachment and monopoly lol found the epic employee. See when you come up with stupid stuff it makes you look so foolish.

This is sadly no help for users without an epic-account, like me.
But fingers crossed for an quick hotfix. Until then I play Solo/offline and learn the new things.

if steamworks offered crossplatform play support, EOS wouldn't have been a hard requirement for having crossplay in the game.
This has nothing to do with contracts etc, it's just a simple matter of wanting the multiplayer experience to be as good as possible, which includes crossplay.

It also honestly boggles my mind how salty people get about bugs in an EXPERIMENTAL version of an EARLY ACCESS game.

Guys, they're going to fix the Epic popups soon once they fix more critical bugs.
For non-epic-users, the popups and their consequences are a critical bug. They can not play MP.
Driggins 27 października 2021 o 2:02
-NoMultiplayer in launch options will fix this.

so how will bugs get fixed if people don't complain about them? the issue has been acknowledged by CSS and is being worked on because people complained. also making your program automatically open a different program is not a good look, make it a prompt like "click here to log in through EOS in webbrowser" or something
