Lag Spikes
Does anyone else have lag spikes at specific places on the map everytime you walk there, regardless of what's there? Just wondering, and I'm assuming it's just something they'll need to optimize

It's pretty normal to see lag spikes when you switch biomes, depending on how much RAM your system has.

There's also a lag spike when the autosave runs, although if you have your savegames on an SSD, that helps a lot.

yeah I have the one on autosaves but the other one is at specific places on the map and if you cross an imaginary line it seems, then it causes a lag spike. I have 8GB RAM which might actually be low for this game but for example, there's an imaginary line in between my two buildings and every time I cross that point it lags and there are multiple spots just randomly around that lag. Other than that, I have no lag and am on ultra settings so I feel like it isn't the PC since theres a consistency to where it lags.

The game will lag when loading assets. In some games the lag causes all sorts of physics handling to go crazy, but here it's just a mild annoyance at times.

Happens when loading world chunks, when you find the border of these chunks you'll get lag spikes going back and forth a lot.

Don't think there is anyway to stop it. Just part of the engine/programming, unfortunately.

yep a cple of iron ore nodes in the dunes does it for me, every time I pass them or go near them I get a stutter, even when nothing is built on or anywhere near them, not noticed anywhere else (that's not been built on) on the map giving me stutter issues, it's very similar to the autosave stutter but for apparently no reason that I can see lol

If the Satisfactory game files are on a hard drive rather than an SSD, try defragmenting that drive. Doing so is not a magic wand, but it will reduce the drive head thrashing some and speed things up...and it costs nothing but a little time.

8 GB of RAM is OK, but is probably the least expensive yet most cost-effective portion of a system to upgrade that would make a meaningful difference. Having 16 GB or more won't get rid of the initial stutter when you first load assets, but it will help keep them cached after that first hit so you don't see repeated lags as much.

Or simply wait for updates, since the devs have made some pretty major improvements over time.

Okay, can you move just the save game files from Satisfactory to an SSD? Not enough room on an SSD to move everything from C to SSD.

Copy-paste from the other thread:

Well, unless you can't change path of the config folder via either the config files or the registry, you could try two dirty and old tricks; sym-linking or move the appfolder.

This doesn't solve it.

Yeah it's a long standing issue, as you can see by the age of this thread. Someone could probably compile and draw up a map of the various lag spots, as they seem to be static at certain points on the map and are best avoided as HUB and/or primary factory locations where you will spend a bulk of your time.

Distributing your factories instead of building a central megafactory, and avoiding building lots of stuff on the border of biomes seemed to help; the lag was there but tolerable.

YMMV.
