Steam Cloud Overwrites Saves of Other Users During Sync Without Asking
I've run into an issue where multiple users on the same machine can overwrite both local and cloud save files without any prompts to sync the files.

Preface: I've been introducing a friend to Satisfactory and they have been liking it so far. We both play on the same computer currently, but logged into our own Steam accounts.

Last night I spent the better part of four hours getting my steel and transport system setup, logging off at about 4 AM. At 10 AM, my friend logged on and played for several hours. Finally, at around 3:30 PM I logged in to find that all of my own save files had been reverted back to when my friend last played yesterday (~11PM).

Checking the steam cloud sync logs, my cloud files were uploaded to the cloud normally just before 4AM. Next, my friend logged on and all the local files (the entire SaveGame folder) were overwritten to match their cloud save (including my own current local save files). Next, when I logged on, all of the local files (including the false old files) were synced onto my cloud without a prompt, removing every possible backup.

Note, outside of major milestones, I usually save over 3 different files (suffixed A, B, and C) in a rolling pattern to provide some backup against corruption without creating a million different files. Because of this, there were no files in my cloud that had different names than the old copies my friend had.

I can provide my cloud_log file to the developers if needed to resolve this.

TLDR: The cloud syncing is 'restoring' other steam user save data without any confirmation prompts, overwriting the data of other users on the same computer.

Do the other people use the same Windows User?

Iirc the savegames are stored in c:\Users\YOURNAME\...

So make different Windows Users and you should be save.

I'm letting them use my PC to show them the game. Its the same Windows user profile, logged in with a different Steam account.

This is the Problem.

The Savegames are stored in the User Folder. And if you all use the same Userprofile, they all share the same folder.
So Steam overwrite it. Not only for Satisfactory but for many games.

But Steam should restore your own games, when you log in into Steam.

On the other hand, you can iirc turn off the steam cloud for a game.

Just start a new game for your friends... don't let other people ruin your own saves.
