Bit weird though. Usually that's what rookie level designers do, forget to put down skylight. Or just don't know about it or how to use it.
Did you some how not notice it's in Early Access at the moment?
You can see here, in the desert, these shadows are not so dark.

They will probably work on this eventually. A lot of stuff still needs tweaking. There are still parts of the map with the landscape incomplete, foliage floating in the air, rocks that you can walk through, etc. I think the game has been in development for 2 or 3 years, so it could very well be in development another 2 to 3 years.
For now, you can turn off the shadows, turn on your flashlight with "B" on the keyboard or use some console commands to tweak things the way you like them.
You can use "grass.DisableDynamicShadows 1" to turn off grass shadows.
There are other commands also.
r.AllowLandscapeShadows
r.DistanceFieldShadowing
r.Shadow.FilterMethod

I'll stop you right there.
First, having "EA" tag does not automatically protect from critique.
Second, putting the price tag on the game and going public gives only one chance for first impression. EA or not.
And finally, placing Sky Light on the scene is as easy as dragging it on to 3d view, and then just bring down the intensity, so that the shadows won't be pitch black and at the same time it won't affect global illumination much.

So it tells me two things: either that was a deliberate, and poor in my opinion, artistic choise.. Or devs just didn't think about it, or forgot, or lack understanding. In which case, it would be a good piece of feedback to let them know.
Some how in your mind you do not seem to connect the two together that "Early Access" = "Unfinished Product".
Stop protecting devs from non-existent threats.
That's the whole point of the Early Access ordeal, you lunatic, to gather feedback on issues of all sorts.
