I can play unmodded but there are mods that make a day and night difference in QoL such as Infinite Zoop, Infinite Nudge, Quick Save Hotkey, Destructible Deposits, Belt Throughput Counter and Limiter or the one that removes the Ultra Annoying Whale Penguin Something Thing from your sight or large blueprint mods. I have 200+ hours into vanilla 1.0 but it feels incomplete without mods.
Some things that were available as mods before, in some form, are now a part of the game too: belt-fed biomass burners, dimensional depot, teleporters, belt Mk6.
Smart! - It allows me to put down as many foundations as I want (Zoop on steroids ). It also allows me to "Zoop" buildings, and do things like "Zoop" splitters and mergers with a set distance apart. Just really helps me build things quickly
Powersuit - Gives me an exoframe, and a lot of modules I can research, build, and install, allowing me to move faster, have a proper flight mode, and a lot of other little QOL things. I like this mod as I still have to do stuff to get those things
I got a stack of others, but these two are the main. I can play without them, but with them I can get so much more done
Those QoLs or changes in the game are no joke.
Unfortunately not yet updated afaik. So a little patience... ;)
True, because mods make you realize how many things a game is missing, what the game could have been. And it's easy to get used to good things. This is true for all games, not just this one. And I don't blame the devs (well, not *always*) as they can't possibly add every feature to the game and make everybody happy, or they'd never finish the game. The devs focus on the core game and the mods take care of the missing parts.
They are awesome, like I said, some were available as mods before, but not being able to nudge/move vertically or turn objects in smaller increments, as well as not being able to nudge *all" buildings is beyond ridiculous at this point in game's life.
Also, there are sometimes 'exploits' that can be discovered in a game. Often this is the result of an added feature that happens to 'overlap' with something else in the game and create a potential to take advantage of the game. I am sure this is known to the Devs, but since the added feature seems to be important to the game and, it is not a competitive game, there is no risk of ruining the game because of it. With the AGS and mods it is obvious to me that they (the Devs) intended you to be able to adjust the game more to your liking.
As I have said many times, of other sandbox games;
"They give you the bucket and a shovel and all the sand, now it is up to YOU to design and create the sandcastles and adventures that YOU want to play".
This seems to be the best possible for a game, especially one that doesn't have an 'ending' (even after 'completing' the purpose of the game it allows you to continue playing).
So, which one is it?
It's not just sandbox games though sandbox games are basically platforms for modding, yeah. Skyrim lacked a decent UI and had major issues related to VRAM and RAM usage that Bethesda never bothered fixing so SkyUI, SKSE and other mods basically saved the game and made it what it was. Many action and adventure games such as Witcher or Cyberpunk have tons of mods, lots of new armor, weapons, vehicles, new quests, new vendors, and lots more.
I've already finished 1.0 without mods, now I'm playing again, slowly, taking into account previous mistakes and missed opportunities. And of course I'll install mods.
