Plutonium fuel rod or unit?
Been starting to eye nuclear power as a bit of a challenge to myself, but I definitely want to sink the waste material. So I'm curious what people's preferred method of this is in terms of making plutonium fuel rods or using the alt recipe plutonium fuel unit?

I run two of my facilities off of uranium fuel rods, then use the waste to make and run a plutonium plant. I have yet to sink any plutonium waste, as it burns very slowly. Everything is automated with drones so I don't even have to do anything but check the waste level occasionally. I have two of the two story containers and have yet to fill even one. They are all running at two power shards overclocked. It's pretty efficient from what I have dealt with in about 80 hours of having nuclear plants.

when the goal is to sink the Rods then you dont use the alternate recipes for the cells or the rods because you want to use as much as possible of the uranium waste. The opposite is true if you want to actually burn them

Nuclear energy is such a pain in the neck. Uranium waste can be recycled into plutonium, but plutonium waste can only be stored. In can't be sunk or destroyed. So unless you want a huge waste storage facility, you don't use plutonium fuel rods for energy.
So you might create Uranium fuel rods>generate uranium waste>use the waste to create plutonium fuel rods>sink the plutonium fuel rods.
My problem is that the blender I used to make Non-fissile uranium for the plutonium process kept stopping production for no reason and had to be restarted. And I was constantly having to make gas masks to visit the complex.
In the end, I closed it down and converted the whole complex to fuel generators. No maintenance required.

I prefer an almost zero radiation environment....

All my production,.use, waste handling, plutonium cell and sink are all planned so that you can go around the plant without protection.

Even belts don't stack muck items to prevent stacking and radiation

Addendum... A run 12 reactions with just one uranium node

I run 7 reactors at max OC. Recycle all waste on site. Everything is fabricated in a single vertical factory , including the batteries for the drones. The plant is designed to run zero maintenance. But I am able to visit most floors of the factory with little to no exposure. Exception being the proximity to raw uranium or waste products,

That's built around the arch in the grasslands.

That is a sweet build!! :steamhappy:

This is the opposite side from that first image where all the raw materials come in.

What Azjaran says, I'm using 80 or so reactors waste for sinking pluto rods.

For me, the simplest way to do it was 1) standard non-fissile (10 blenders). 2) alternate instant plutonium cell (6-7 particle accelerators). 3) alternate plutonium fuel rod (7 assemblers) 4) sink

As far as both uranium and plutonium fuel cells. only used the the standard recipes. Pressure cubes are a complex process and I try to conserve aluminum for other products. Although I have used the alternates in proceeding uranium steps. Use wet concrete or pure caterium for waste water and sink excess. Gets tricky trying to feed water back and you don't want that with radiation or power. Multiples of 5 reactors works well for the standard recipes and now you can overclock. They are bulky.

Plutonium radiation is much more intense and is the only area I get concerned, all things working properly.

This was also a question for me, however the amount of pressure conversion cubes and the fact that in sum you get less points out of the alt recipe than the standard one made me decide for the standard here.
I did however use the Instant plutonium cell alt recipe as this skips a step.

is the plutonium fuel rods meant to be destroyed will it be patched
Huren Ogeko 3 DIC 2024 a las 6:14 p. m.
this threads almost a year old and things have changed in 1.0 so nothing in this thread is really valid anymore

we now have a while other production chain that lets you turn plutonium waste into yet another burnable material.

I would get my info about nuclear form a more recent post on the subject
