Did they change how Industrial Storage Containers output?
Was always told not to trust them to be consistent on both ports.
But now it seems they prioritize the upper port before the bottom port.

Much like an overflow set smart splitter.

This consistent with what everyone else is seeing?

How are you so active on the forums and don't already know the answer to this? You have an answer for everything else, why not this?

Storage output priority is random and depends on the order of code in ram. They don't act like splitters, despite being very handy as a 2 by 2 splitter.

Yeah....that's what I remember and I've seen online.

Was just curious if they've changed them since 1.0.

Also they don't really split evenly - also something I presumed/seen first hand.

Just noticed that when empty - its only using the top port at full blast.
Bottom port only in use when something is in the container.

Could be totally random for all I know.

It would be nice to have consistent behavior out of a storage box. It would be nice to have a 2 by 2 splitter in general, it's such a good way to balance production lines but that's too fancy I guess.

People aren't omnipotent.

Yeah, been seeing that too.

It's been said over the years why not treat it like a splitter - sequentially empty both ports 1 2 1 2 1 2 - but for some reason the Dev's just didn't.

This hasn't been an issue for me yet. But I'd like to see this too.
Is it possible that the priority goes to the exit that was placed first?

I had one that was emptying from the bottom, so I rebuilt the top one, but nothing. I removed the two outputs and rebuilt the top one first, then the bottom one, and only the top one worked.

Btw, I load from the bottom.

Loading bottom - but its prioritizing the top unless there's something inside the can.
This is a buffer before it hits the train platform so yeah.

I've stopped trying to make any sense out of it and just plug smart splitter/merger balancers for their outputs instead. Cost a bit more headspace, but also cost a lot less headache.

Oh don't get me wrong - wasn't expecting much - just getting the "current consensus" as it seems like something changed - looks like it didn't - still random as ever.

EDIT: yeah just came back to look at it again after messing about somewhere else - its now going "You just got trolled!" at me and is completely random.

And here I was hopping the dev's did something for 1.0 with im.

Oh well.

You are right :woarrose:

He must always butt in, in an obnoxious manner, and knows everything *better*. Why not this?

My experience has been if you fill from the top then then the bottom tends to be the priority but if you fill from the bottom it priorities out the top. (all assuming the container is otherwise empty)
But I dont really do anything that counts on this and as such I have not done thorough to make sure it always acts like this or if its just at random times.
Usually I am using these containers for linking to depots these days so I can buffer up some material that will be ready for the depot as space becomes available. This way I can feed the container at any speed I need but can count on a far bit of buffer adding to the depot as whatever max depot speed I have unlocked.
Other then that I use them do dump biomass and stuff for the sink or other collectibles. Or to buffer train stations. Other then this I have pretty much no use for them in any production line.
