Update 8 World Showcase in Unreal Engine 5
Check out and discuss the most recent development video here.

Today's video is a very different video: It consists of one big VOD (from Twitch, a couple weeks ago) in which Hannah joined Snutt and Jace exploring Satisfactory's refined world in the UE5 Editor and answering a few questions along the way!

So if you'd like to see first-hand some of the changes, grab a snack, a coffee and get cosy!

DISCLAIMER: When flying around in the engine editor, the performance is not indicative of how the game will perform when it's built nor how the game will look.

Yes! Snutt and I recently discussed the possibility of creating a pinned thread for each new video release, with the aim of providing greater visibility for those who don't regularly check YouTube and creating a centralized discussion space. Pinned threads can sometimes go unnoticed, but we agreed that it's worth at least trying.

given the endless number of people posting on the update 7 threads in the on the news and event section saying that the devs never give any updates having something like there will help. So many players dont ever see things beyond the steam forums so these sort of posts will bring greater awareness to the updates that come out from youtube and twitch.

Cross-posting on the Steam news feed for Satisfactory, and on the Events & Announcements forum, would probably go a long way to helping too

Full Controller Support When?
Huren Ogeko May 6, 2023 @ 8:05am
Somewhere between never and after full release. The devs are not even going to consider it until after the game is done and even then its just a solid maybe.

well, last time as Jace pulled that off I held back to not accuse him for searching for excuses - but this time for me it's just "yea, nobody came up with any better than 'nothin' - so lets post last weeks stream as video to post at least anything"
as for technical difficulties Snutt had during the UE5 teaser - ok, fine, they wanted to keep the UE5 update secret (although it was predictable from previous streams and the chain of "not an option at all" to "we may consider looking into it" to "yea, it'll be something maybe even before 1.0") - but now that it was revealed that U8 mostly will be UE5 with some map polish there's no need to keep anything U8 related secret anymore
from the stream it's clear that it will take at least another several weeks as there's still a ton (yes, a METRIC one for all you not-using-metric-system-weirdos) to do - so U8 can be expected sometime around summer (as in june/july) or even later
Snutt also already revealed "yes, there IS a solution to the MK3 miner / MK5 belt issue" - but why do they keep it secret? either it comes with U8 - or sometime next year with maybe U9/Un / 1.0 (or maybe in 2025 - doesn't matter, the game is in dev for how many years now? 4? 5?)

Satisfactory currently suffers really heavily from missing information directly from the devs to the community - or at least ANY form of feedback as over on the QA site - and THIS has to change fast no matter how (either direct communication from/with the devs - or a lot more from Jace and Snutt)

I DO understand why the game is kept so long in early access - as there's no other flow of income for the studio so they somehow have to get money - and it's honerable they don't do it with stupid cosmetics DLCs - but that's no excuse for lack of communication - it's very bad from the upper management

but hey - what do I complain about - all I will get is one of the following:

- no reaction at all
- some valve employee without any connection to CSS devs just punishes me with yet another warning/strike/ban just out of pure ego will
- the same we get since the past years from Jace and Snutt: "we don't want to reveal it yet"

currently there's quite a lack of community interaction and in this case when I'm asked "what do you think about uploading last weeks stream as video?": it's just another excuse - looking over to other studios there're better ways - and CSS's currently isn't a good one

They are keeping it a secret for a couple reasons. First off some of it is not 100% going to make it as they are still trying to work out if its feasible so we dont get all mad when something they promised will be there is later pulled because it didnt work out as expected.
And second they want to have release info little at a time through their teaser season but the delay in release means they now have some weeks to fill with something and there is only so many features left to put out videos on.
So far we got the unread engine update, new fauna, map changes, incredible updates to blueprints but there is more they havent released yet and will probably do so as they get back into weekly teasers after they have a pretty solid release day internally.
there is alot more for update 8 then the unreal engine from just what they told us so far and there is even more I expect they havent told us about yet that they will put out info on as soon as they know its a solid go and have a release date in mind.

When I bought this game a year ago I had seen gameplay footage with controller prompts on the screen and bought it thinking it had controller support.

Then when I inquired about it, the community was quick to assure me that controller support was definitely coming, and seemed to get angry with me for trying to get a definitive source or clarification on it.

So I waited, and now I can't refund the game anymore because I've had it too long, but I never would have bought it if I had known it didn't have controller support.

I want controller support. I don't understand why the devs of other games can implement full controller support but these guys can't.

There are ways to get controller to work there is just no official controller support now and no promises from the devs there will be. All we have is that they are thinking about it but want to finish the game first.
So if you want controller support now I know there are ways to do it via steam deck and maybe other methods but I have no experience with using controllers on any sort of PC game as I didnt even know controllers even worked on PCs in the first place until recently.

I hope you didnt pay too much money. I know in my currency the game is pretty cheap when it goes on sale.

You can still play with a controller using Steam Input.

Yeah that's obviously not as good for a lot of reasons for example the UI doesn't display the correct controller prompts when using Steam Input.

Of course it doesn't as that needs controller support in the game itself and not via a translation layer which Steam Input is. But I played for nearly 450 hours using Steam Input and I would lable it as playable. Not perfect but playable.

The most obnoxious and frustrating part about adding controller support to a game is figuring out which keys should be bound to which buttons, It seems to me like if players have already done that work, so they'd basically just need to download the redistributables and add a UI toggle with button prompts.
